If your kid is in high school, check with the school first. Many HS lend out graphing calculators to students.

If your intended use is standardized tests, check very carefully which specific models are allowed. Despite having the same product line number (TI-84) some of those are not allowed.

For general use, I'd go with TI-84+ CE Python edition - better programmability and more ways to do fun stuff.

They're not all equal. Get the best for your kids. Hopefully they'll make full use of it.

I was envious of the other college kids with the 84's when I was stuck with an old 81. Still have an urge to get one all these years later, even though I have no need for it.

I have been looking for a used TI 84 silver edition on marketplace for $20-30, but this shall fit the bill instead.

I went down a real rabbit hole on these calculators when trying to figure out what to get.

Basically, these are really good in terms of hardware, but the reason they're priced low is bc they trap you into using the app for any sort of file exchange, and use an updated file type which erases all the programming done on these things for decades. Basically, they trap you into the TI ecosystem.

If none of that matters to you, then this is a really nice deal.

If you'd prefer to live more in an open ecosystem and want to reserve the ability to use these for more than just school assignments, then I second the guy who said the TI-84+ CE Python edition - or really any IT-84+ CE edition, ideally with a model made after 2019 (which has upgraded processor). Python functionality itself is supposedly not very useful on these devices, unless you specifically are looking for it.

lol no one makes "full use" of this crap. get the absolute cheapest, bare minimum that is allowed in school. use a computer for everything else.

The best? The best is a computer but they aren't allowed, the school wants an expensive restricted version.
