It's true that you can get the 4's for much less. However, one of the biggest selling points for me is an easily replacible battery. The 4 does not have this and neither does the high end Sony or Bose models.

i would rather get a new pair with better anc and better tech in 3 years

How much better will the tech get in three ears? I've tried so many high end headphones and they are all sharing similar features.

Also, my Bose QC 35 IIs will be ten years old next year, I've replaced the cups and band at least three times and the original battery is still well above ten hours run time.

Features are getting better and they get better fast. Multi device switching instantly going from phone to laptop without reconnects, better ear detection for instant power on and off, better anc, better transparency and pass through.
After using convince features I would not consider older headphones and i didn't even know i wanted them.

Nice price but anc is still sub par. Just got the Technics A1000 and anc is excellent xm6 Bose levels and in my opinion they sound better than the momentum 5s also less bulky. Id spend the extra 100$ for those.
