This is likely the Walmart version that requires monthly premium service, not just taxes and fees.

FYI
While you might think you can get these cheaper used, they charge a reactivation fee that is waived on new units- basically negates any savings. Very secondhand market unfriendly practice.

What do you mean? I have Ooma and pay about $6.83/mo or something like that. So this could not be a replacement for that without additional charges? Is this the one at Walmart you're talking about where people are complaining about extra premium charges in the comments?

I have 2 of the old Telo 104 boxes I bought new and activated about 12 years ago, both with USB WiFi adapters, for $109 each. In total it knocked my bill down from about $80 a month for 2 landlines to $15 for 2 VOIP lines. I've saved over $9,000 in that time period on the initial $220 investment. Had my first Ooma failure a couple of weeks ago, a USB wireless adapter that stopped connecting to my router. Grabbed one on eBay for $20 shipped, plugged it in with zero programming needed, and I'm back in business.

Maybe your eBay unit had never been activated.

"If the device has previously been activated, you'll receive instructions on how to contact our Customer Care team to clear the device's current settings and pay a one-time fee to reactivate the device"

not sure if an adapter ever needs any activation, but the main units do

I'm pretty sure the WiFi adapters are "off the grid" as far as activation goes; replaced mine with an identical unit and the original wireless adapter setup in the Ooma box immediately ran with it. These boxes have served me well but are getting a little outdated. At some point in the next few years I'll probably replace all of it with new hardware. The service itself has been nothing short of excellent.

I still use the original Ooma Hub with Google Voice and zero monthly fees! I can't believe it's still working after 17 years!

How do these boxes work? How is it any different then just calling from a Google voice number?
