I was considering buying a pair of 600ii's and moving my 500ii's to the back as surrounds but the 600ii's are two way speakers i dont have enough channels and at this price, the 500s are a no brainer.
Also If you don't mind mixing brands, the same site has a like new condition open box svs 1200 pro sealed sub for $530 and with a 5% off coupon comes down to just over $430. I'm seriously considering it though it seems overkill for my small 14x10 room. I think a 10" would suffice

You don't need more channels for two way speakers since there is a crossover build in, and the tweeter and woofer are bridged together

In looking at the pics, the 600s have 4 posts on each speaker (to allow for optional bi-amping) and the 500s have 2. He's likely confused because of this thinking you NEED all 4 to power the speaker
But there are two sets of ports in the back, so what am i doing with them?
Many higher end speakers have 4 posts to allow for the option of bi-amping or bi-wiring (look those terms up) but you most definitely don't need to use all 4. I'm sure 95% of people with these speakers just use a normal 2 wire configuration and it works just fine

Yes, that was my assumption. But are throwing some money if your buying these and not planning to do that? Is there a specific purpose in doing that with bookshelves as opposed to looking at floorspeakers at that point? I do really need to read more.
