EGO's 880 CFM blower stands out as a very powerful cordless option, especially for clearing leaves and garage debris while avoiding the noise and smell of gas. The two 4.0Ah batteries and charger add real value, and the bundle has been matched or beaten through Lowe's, Ace, and Walmart alternatives. It is heavy, and the lowest power setting can still feel too strong for delicate jobs. Battery storage and discharge behavior also come up as a concern for casual use, making this a better fit if you will use the batteries regularly.
Common Questions (5)
Yes. Lowe's online chat has been used for a price match with local pickup, and one purchase was completed with a Chase Sapphire Reserve 10% Lowe's offer. Ace has also shown lower effective pricing, including about $265 in cart and a 15% online sale with store pickup.
It has been around $290-$307 recently, but the model is only about 2 years old and has seen a roughly $100 price increase since launch. With little competition at 880 CFM, it is unlikely to fall under $300 unless it is bundled with fewer batteries.
Yes. The bundle is attractive if you need EGO batteries, because two 4.0Ah packs plus the charger can be worth a large share of the price on their own. Standalone 2x4Ah batteries were estimated at about $225-$250 on Facebook Marketplace.
It is heavy, and the 880 CFM version is about half a pound heavier than the 765 model. It is still manageable for users who want a very powerful blower, but it is worth checking whether you can comfortably handle it.
It works well for clearing leaves and blowing out garages, especially when you want less noise and smell than a gas backpack blower. Even on the lowest setting it can be very strong, so some users throttle it on and off for more delicate cleanup.

The batteries are programmed to discharge themselves from full to near empty if you haven't used them in 30 days. For a casual user it means a bunch of nearly dead batteries every time you try to use your equipment. I've never asked for this "feature" and would've never bought this garbage had I known!
I own several other power tool systems and none of them behave this way.
If your EGO battery ever goes to crap with the flashing light when you press the button, drop the battery with the button display toward the ceiling/sky from 1-foot high on a solid surface like asphalt or concrete floor. It works. I had to do it last month. There are thousands of people who have posted about this. No clue what it does internally. But it fixes that issue.

I've also never had any of the 10+ ego batteries I have get "extremely hot" such that they would be a fire hazard. Yours might be defective and if they're not too old probably still covered under warranty.
I've done it for a dozen different dangerous defective products.
Although one thing I filed took a decade for them to recall. A Stanley food bottle that explodes. I went on Amazon and started reading similar explosions.
The solution? Each time you're finished using the battery, put it on the charger and set a timer. Try to time it so that your battery charges to 50%. Next week before you mow your lawn, put the battery on the charger and let it charge to 100%. Rinse and repeat. Never charge in freezing temperatures and avoid charging and discharging when the battery is hot.

And btw, what you're saying about storage at 100% is true in theory, but I've got batteries of other tool brands that are over a decade old and are always stored fully charged, and guess what? They work just fine and hold plenty of charge too.
The only reason that EGO is the only company that does this is because there's fault with their batteries, but instead of redesigning them they'd chosen this obnoxious solution.

THEY ARE MY BATTERIES!

Batteries are chemistry and different batteries have different chemistries. What works for one battery does not work for another. If EGO didn't offer a self discharge for every dummy that charges to 100% before winter, they would sell more replacement batteries and deal with review shame. Leaving your lithium battery at 100% is akin to never changing your car oil. It works until it doesn't. It's the same reason your cellphone battery starts to really suck after 2 years.
It's nobody's business what I do with the things I own, and the car dealer doesn't show up at my house to deflate my tires if my oil change is overdue. That's essentially what EGO is doing, because whenever I pick up their batteries I have to recharge them after they've been "deflated" by EGO.

And to be fair, you won't necessarily invalidate your entire warranty, but only parts of it, for lack of maintenance.
