At checkout page there's a tiny blue message that says have a promo code or something like that above the confirmation button. Select that and it appears a text field to paste the code into. Do that and it should show a new total amount and then subscribe.
I found pausing the app helps this while I use the webpage in a browser to complete the process of subscribing on a phone.
