So, I fail to see why anyone would get this over getting a card off eBay, unless you *really* need that red color

Some people don't trust eBay or never used it or have no clue what eBay is. That and people like "trusted" name brands

Fyi this card is a POS. I had it and returned it because I kept randomly losing my connection

For a modern machine with PCIe 4+, I'd actually advocate getting one with the relatively new RTL8127 chipset instead of this Marvell/Aquantia or old enterprise gear from eBay. Yes, it's cheap and there's limited track record, but there are a couple of benefits. Firstly, access to PCIe 4 vs 3 means you could spend fewer lanes -- one lane is all you need! Secondly, these tend to run cooler and consume less power.

For older PCIe 3 systems, retired enterprise gear is great. I have a few 2-port Dell Intel X710-DA2 in service, and they've been rock-solid. They have more lanes than they need because they were designed for both PCIe 2 and 3. But on my PCIe 4 and 5 servers... they waste lanes, so I'm exploring more modern options.

Have the RTL8127 in one of my PCs… works great.

You don't trust it, but many people at are familiar with the name.

How many people recognize the name Glotrends or BrosTrend or Lemspum or Yuanley etc etc. All are white label brands from China. And produce NIC cards that I've made the leap of faith and purchased. Thus far, they work great. Most will opt not to buy these no names but instead will buy the more expensive TP-Link or Asus or Netgear because they're names they know.

Some businesses are required to have full part traceability to fulfill legal compliance.

Really need a connection setup with 10 gigabits to test throughput... for many that means 2 cards
