This refurbished Dell OptiPlex 7090 Ultra is a tiny monitor mounted desktop that stands out for its 32GB of RAM and Windows 11 Pro at a low price. The i5 1145G7 is a laptop class chip, so performance is solid for light to moderate use but not a powerhouse, and the CPU is soldered to the mainboard. The unusual form factor can also limit expansion and make fitment important, though it can be powered by USB C power delivery and is meant to create an all in one style setup. A decent value if the compact design matches the job.

Common Questions (5)

  • It can be powered by power delivery, so a compatible USB-C monitor or power source may run it. The listing is still worth confirming for an included power supply or cord, since that detail is not clearly shown in the comments.

  • The CPU is soldered to the mainboard, so it is not realistically user-upgradeable. That makes the i5-1145G7 a fixed part of the build, which matters if you want future CPU upgrades.

  • It was designed to mount on the back of Dell monitors to create an all-in-one setup, so the shape is unusual compared with standard mini PCs. That design also means the I/O and mounting approach are more specialized than a typical small desktop.

  • The 32GB RAM is a standout for this price range, since many similar listings only have half as much memory. The tradeoff is that the i5-1145G7 is a laptop-class CPU and may feel limiting for heavier or more future-proof workloads.

  • Similar mini PCs in this price range often have worse overall specs or come barebones, and many comparable listings are more expensive without a 1-year warranty. The $230 price has also appeared on and off all year, so it is a decent deal rather than a rare one.

Looks like a gateway drug device for getting into homelabbing. Pretty sweet deal.
SHUSH! I was actually looking at adding these to my home cluster.

It's basically a laptop without the screen. You can get a similarly specced laptop for about the same price.
Where???!

Great specs for the price. The CPU is a laptop CPU so this is not a powerhouse but for the price now you can't get better specs than this. Just be sure the form factor works for you.
CPU soldered to mainboard

Meh, most of them are more expensive and without the 1 year warranty.

They have been on-and-off available for this price all year. Not a deal worth gatekeeping, but a decent deal nonetheless.

Dell may have discontinued this product line fwiw
Yes, the OptiPlex 7090 Ultra has been discontinued.
Also, I was looking for how to mount the 7090 to the back of a TV, and there's a recommended/special offset VESA mount, part # 0W8VV, but can't actually find pricing for it on the Dell website or other places on amazon, eBay

Barring quality issues, the i/o limits this build from anything that isn't mostly single use. The ram costs as much as the pc, though

*"edit** the Walmart page didn't show the thunderbolt clearly

Eye roll. https://www.ebay.com/itm/267824407627 29 bucks more for a 13" laptop with twice the storage, a 1 year warranty, and two thunderbolt 4 ports.

This CPU is very mid and lackluster but the 32gb of RAM help. You generally won't find 32gb of RAM in this price range ever. That being said, I wouldn't purchase this strictly because the CPU is such a bottleneck, especially for future proofing.
