The PS4 Pro and Slim are still seen as strong value for the money, especially the 1TB models, with the Pro favored for smoother performance and better modding compatibility while the Slim gets credit for lower power, better Wi Fi, and faster USB ports. The PS4 library, cheap used discs, and Blu ray playback add a lot of entertainment value, and the Best Buy refurb setup is appealing because it ships and can be returned if there is a problem. Main caveats are that these units are listed in Good condition, stock varies by location, and the refurb may not include the original box or warranty. For storage, a 2.5 inch SATA SSD is an easy upgrade path.
Players who want a huge back catalog, because the PS4 has a strong library and cheap used discs make it easy to build a lot of playtime.
Tinkerers who plan to mod the console, because the Pro has better compatibility with patches and the system can be modded to unlock more of the game library.
Buyers who want a living-room console for discs and movies, because it also works as a Blu-ray player and can deliver hundreds of hours of entertainment.
Yes. The 1TB version is the sweet spot for storage, and the extra $20 over the 500GB model is a strong value if you plan to install several games or avoid running out of space quickly.
The PS4 Pro is faster and can deliver smoother performance and better details in some games, while the Slim is the cheaper pick with better Wi‑Fi, faster USB ports, and lower power use than the original full-size PS4. For modding, the Pro is also the better choice because it has more compatibility with patches.
Yes. The Slim offers a large game library, inexpensive used physical discs, and Blu-ray playback, making it a strong entertainment value if the refurb unit includes a working controller and is in good condition.
Great console. Sony really turned things around with the PS4. Great library, good price. It might be Sony's best or second best console after the PS2. One other thing that made this generation stand out was how much was remastered from the PS2 and PS3 era. With the PS3, unless you got the earlier, expensive backwards compatible models (I had one and got the notorious YLOD), you were often stuck never being able to play PS2 era games unless you had a PS2. PS4 generation really upped the remaster catalog making it almost pointless to have backwards compatibility or an old PS2/PS3 lying around for a lot of people. The only game that I wanted that I remember not being able to play was MGS4. I only regret I didn't play more when I was able to really enjoy playing guilt free more often.
PS4 was not so great for me. I literally have hundreds of games for my PS3, and like 4 were playable on the ps4. That soured me a good bit. The ps4 vr resolution was pretty low as well. I tried watching some 3d Blu-rays, but the low resolution was apparent in the psvr2 headset. I sold my ps4 pro just after a couple of months. Years later I recently bought a used ps5 slim off marketplace for $320. It's is pretty backwards compatible except for psvr. I think in order to play psvr 1 games you need the psvr 1 headset.
Anyhow my last favorite Sony machine was either the psp or the PS3. Any PS3 could play ps1 games. I do have a couple of launch PS3 that still work, but honestly I would preferred to emulate ps2 games. I'm not really interested in repurchasing remasters of games I already own. I focus on PC games now, but I do have the ps5 for console exclusives. I also have a 3d tv from 2016 so I can play some PS3 games in 3d.
Lots of value in the ps4 slim for $100 if it's a good refurbished unit with a working controller. Great game library, cheap used physical discs aplenty, ps4 graphics are still good enough IMO, and it's a Blu-ray player. Literally 100s of hrs in entertainment if you buy a few games. I checked marketplace and saw someone selling 10x mostly excellent titles for about $50!
Nah, he's right. PS4 and Xbox One are when we started to get ridiculously long dev cycles and fewer exclusives. PS3/360 was peak in terms of console wars.

And with prev gen, external hds are perfectly fine, you don't need the 1TB console.
