This Costco MacBook Pro deal pairs the 14.2 inch M5 model with 16GB memory and 1TB storage at $1,349.99, with free shipping, a two per member limit, and Costco's 90 day computer return window plus a second year of warranty. The price undercuts Apple's $1,999 tag and sits below the newly launched M6 version, making it especially attractive for buyers who want Pro ports and the better screen. The main hesitation is 16GB RAM, which feels tight for heavy multitasking, Teams, local AI, or development work. It is a strong value for everyday use and storage hungry buyers.
Office workers and light creators who want a fast laptop with lots of storage, because 16GB handles browsing, documents, light Python, and sub-1080p editing.
Developers juggling Xcode, Android Studio, and AI tools, because the Pro chassis adds ports, a better screen, and a fan that helps avoid throttling under heavier workloads.
MacBook Pro upgraders coming from older M1 machines, because the 1TB configuration and 16GB or 24GB memory feel like a meaningful step up for longevity.
Shoppers who want a high-end 14-inch MacBook now, because the price is far below Apple's list price and Costco adds a long return window and extra warranty coverage.
Heavy multitaskers running dozens of tabs plus apps, because 16GB can start disk swapping and feel cramped.
Local LLM builders and other memory-hungry workflows, because 16GB is too tight and 128GB is the safer target.
People who need maximum headroom for long-term heavy development, because 24GB or 32GB is the preferred buffer for future RAM demands.
Buyers who need a smooth checkout experience, because the order screen can freeze and the purchase can be cancelled after placement.

Looking to get a new Macbook but not sure which one I need (Macbook Pro w/ 16GB ram or would having Macbook Air w/ 24GB ram be better, etc).

Do you value the nicer screen/ports of the Pro? The Air is fanless if you prefer that and aren't doing heavy calculations/encoding etc.... If you are doing those then the fan is nice to have so it doesn't throttle.

For comparison, the 13" MacBook Air with an M5 processor and 1TB storage upgrade currently retails for $1600; the 14" MacBook Pro with the newly released M6 processor (comes with 1TB storage) retails for $2000.

What do you do? Data analytics, app design, local LLMs, video encoding, multiple huge excel documents? If none of those then 16 GB would likely serve you well for the next 4+ years. I do the above less LLMs on my 16 GB M2 Pro MacBook Pro without much issue on the RAM side (huge data sets I'm throwing on a server anyways)....

I'm a Software Engineer so sometimes regular development + I also do mobile app development (Xcode, Android Studio) while also utilizing different AI tools. I would definitely want to be able to run both Xcode w/ IOS Simulator + Android Studio w/ Android Emulator + other things without it lagging, being choppy, or having issues.
Most of the dev work I've done the past several months were work-related so it was done on my work 16 inch Macbook Pro which is a pretty high spec one from 2 years ago.
