Normally buying a tool that comes with at least a 5.0 or 7.5 battery is the best way to get more batteries. But these 5.0 batteries for $435 is not bad either. Your getting OEM batteries with a warranty. For my EGO gear, I have 3x 7.5 and 2x 5.0 batteries. Those 5's have helped me get through some crazy snowstorms with my 2 stage snowblower. Solid investment.
I've given up on buying OEM Ego batteries years ago. It doesn't make sense for the ridiculous markups. You can get (pretty darn good) non-OEM EGO compatible batteries off Amazon for such a better price for a relatively comparable battery. My non-OEMs from 2 years ago still going strong into their 3rd year. My original EGO batteries from 5 years ago are paperweights now so it's not like they are anything that special anyway.
EGO is just gouging customers with their battery prices now. They were always expensive, but what they want for battery replacements OEM are just crazy nowadays. I love their tools - have 6 of them - but will never buy their batteries until they become reasonably priced (or one of the special tool+battery deals comes around again).
Also, I like having "more" batteries so I can leave them on the tools, these non-OEM Amazon ones really have been a great buy for me. (Just make sure you get ones that have some decent reviews as there are some lower quality ones). Mine have been great!
Is there anyone who reconditions existing Ego batteries?
There's an electrician on Reddit ego forum who will change out the cells for tabless. Only the new 8 aH battery has the tabless cells. Though it's expensive.

I have done it for fun. It's exhausting. It's a hit or miss on how delicate it can be. Sometimes they put on too much goo in the pack that it's hard to seperate.

Also, the new 6Ah batteries will be out next year and weigh slightly less than these 5Ah.
