Community Reviews
Ooma Telo Air 2 is a simple replacement for a traditional home landline, with reliable Wi Fi calling and a cordless handset for households that still want a fixed phone. The service is described as working well for long stretches, including with Verizon FiOS and older handset systems, and it can be useful for voice quality, voicemail, and mobile app access. The main tradeoff is that it depends on Wi Fi, has no battery backup, and does not include SMS. Monthly cost is usually around $6 to $9 with taxes and fees, so it fits best when you want a straightforward landline style setup.
Common Questions (5)
It can be a dependable landline replacement, with reports of 15 to 18 years of use and stable operation on Verizon FiOS and older handset systems. A newer unit also replaced a Wi‑Fi Telo 1 that needed frequent power-cycling and has worked flawlessly so far.
The service charge can be $0, but taxes and fees are typically about $6-$9 per month depending on ZIP code. One user reports paying a little over $8 monthly, and another says about $7 monthly.
Yes. It relies on Wi‑Fi availability and has no battery to charge, so it needs power and internet to work. It can still handle outgoing calls from a cabin, but it will not function during an outage without backup power/internet.
Yes. If the line does not work or ring, calls can still route to Ooma voicemail so callers can leave messages. That makes it usable even when incoming ringing is failing.
Yes, it can be used from a mobile device through the app. Caller ID is available, but it can reduce the total savings compared with a bare-bones setup.

That said, for elderly folks or people with hearing issues, the voice quality is largely better than via cell phones, at least that's what my parents say. If they have to make an important call with a doc or anything else really important, they will ditch the phone/FaceTime/WhatsApp and use their "VoIP Landline", even though technically it goes all through same the Internet. So, don't discard the use case just because you are young and grew up with smartphone.
