That said, for elderly folks or people with hearing issues, the voice quality is largely better than via cell phones, at least that's what my parents say. If they have to make an important call with a doc or anything else really important, they will ditch the phone/FaceTime/WhatsApp and use their "VoIP Landline", even though technically it goes all through same the Internet. So, don't discard the use case just because you are young and grew up with smartphone.

Ooma Telo Air 2 is a Wi Fi based home phone setup that works well as a simple landline replacement, especially for households that want multiple handsets, intercom use, and a reliable backup for calls around the house. The service is described as clear and dependable, with long term use, mobile app voicemail access, and compatibility with existing cordless systems. It does depend on Wi Fi and has no battery backup, and monthly fees and taxes can add up beyond the advertised low base price. It fits best when you want a traditional house phone without the old landline bill.
Common Questions (5)
Basic Ooma service is about $7.xx to $9 per month, and taxes/fees typically bring the total to roughly $6-$9 or more depending on ZIP code. Premier service is $9.99 plus taxes and fees, which can total about $19 per month.
Yes, long-term users report years of reliable service, including setups that have run for 15 to 18 years or more. Some also note clear voice quality and rare outages, though hardware can eventually fail after many years.
Yes. It is used as a dependable house line with multiple handsets, and calls can be switched between phones or shared by several people in different rooms at the same time. It also supports intercom-style use between rooms.
Yes. It relies on Wi‑Fi availability and has no battery to charge, so it depends on your internet connection for service. It can still be used for regular home calling, including from a cabin or other Wi‑Fi location.
Porting a number into Ooma costs about $40, and porting out is free. That makes it workable if you want to keep an old landline number but still want the option to leave later.

Would porting this "landline number" over to a Google Voice account and then installing Google Voice on an old unlocked phone and connecting the cell phone to our Panasonic phone system via bluetooth achieve what we are trying to do? Or are there any caveats we need to consider for using Google Voice for this landline and the Panasonic system? ...
Thanks in advance for any input,
