I bought one of these a year and a half ago, and it has gotten a lot of use when traveling. I'm really tempted to get something considerably more powerful or in the DS form, but for a portable this cheap, it's surprisingly great. It plays most classic consoles up to Dreamcast like a charm and while the screen isn't huge, it's big enough and looks great for classic pixel-based games.

It hits a really nice spot between quality and bring priced low enough that I won't be angry at myself if I accidentally leave it on a plane.

at ~$45 it's a no brainer. great form factor, I prefer it to the cubeXX. runs several modern indie games well via portmaster, pico8 splore is a good time waster, and of course all the emu stuff. my pick of the "cheap" anbernic devices as I prefer the form factor over the 40xxV

I personally like this quite a bit better than the R36S. 4.0" screen here vs. 3.5" on the R36S; H700 chipset is more capable than the R36S's RK3326; I find this one more comfortable to hold for longer durations due to the horizontal form factor (matter of personal preference, though); built-in WiFi & Bluetooth on this; dual speakers and mini HDMI output here; better build quality; better feeling buttons on the Anbernic; a nice number of custom firmware options to select from on this. The RG40XX H is my personal go-to Linux handheld in the sub-$80 category. Only caveat is it's a bit larger than the R36S, making it a bit less pocket-friendly.

Thanks for the comparison, I was just thinking about these, but ended up going with G350, I think it's more of a no-name type device but at $20 it was just too good to pass, even if it means just for older systems. If this was available for $44 at that time, I probably would have considered this for wifi, BT and HDMI alone well worth $24 premium but the form factor is what makes the other one a better fit for me. As for R36S, honestly G350 is pretty much identical in nearly all aspects, with additional shoulder buttons. Maybe a tiny bit smaller battery, so at $20 I'm excited for that G350 .

I assume my next one (if I really catch the bug like people say) would be something more powerful for sure.

Bought one some time ago. Dropped from nightstand and the screen was damaged. Opened the case and reattached the display band and it did not help. Checked and it is not only my problem.

Great price on this emulator. These are so much fun and so useful. I bought one for my 7 year old son who now loves playing Mario World and Link to the Past on SNES. It's great walking him through challenges that I was navigating around his age. This will make some travel in the near future go very very easy. Thousands of hours of entertainment for $45 is a steal.
