how is this really any better than just taking the attachment off that the blower comes with and just use the built in shorter part of the blower to do the same thing

I think the only real reason is the softer silicone end many of these have. Other than that there isn't really much the slight difference in air speed is unlikely to make a difference.

In practical terms, it's really not. That's how I do it. I tried another brand attachment, and while you get a different concentration of airflow with an attachment, the end result is about the same. Still, for $13, if it floats your boat... Pure speculation, but I suppose if you have one of the lower end Ego blowers, it might have more impact.
