Outperforms the Neo with more features (backlit keyboard, NVMe storage, Touch Bar, internal fan) at half the price.

M1 is still pretty capable and efficient. Way better build quality than a chromebook at chromebook prices. Don't expect it to perform like a current macbook "pro" but if you need a basic machine, you can't really beat the value here.

6 years old. 8 gigs of RAM. Small ssd. Nothing is upgradable. What's the appeal here?

I recommend the Air for $50 less. It's a better form factor for this size and honestly, the performance difference is negligible. This makes for a great ultraportable or school laptop.

Cheaper and better than a MacBook Neo.

This is just a used laptop from trade-ins at BB. Battery would be in bad condition by now and physical condition of laptop would be a lottery.

Same deal for the Air. Looks like they raised the Pro by $50.

The keyboard on the Air M1 is....not great. Not at all.
