Once you pay for the device, you shouldn't be locked behind the paywall to access the basic features it should have come with. But they found a way to monetize it for you to access cloud saves, multiplayer connectivity, etc. Just a pure greed!

Define: console gaming post 2020

I'm planning on moving to PC and Steam after my PS+ sub runs out.

Welcome to gaming, or welcome back if you haven't played since Xbox 360 / PS3 days. That's how far back this goes. On the bright side, Nintendo's service is a fraction of what the other consoles charge. Also only a fraction of the benefits I suppose...

You've got Microsoft to thank for that.

Those things aren't on the device. They're cloud services.

Look, I agree that it's stupid, but Nintendo isn't the one you need to complain about. Xbox and Playstation both charge $80 for a year of online play. Nintendo looks like a hell of a bargain in comparison.

Fair enough. Luckily PC hasn't gone that route... yet. Hopefully it never will!

It will only happen once the founders of Steam die. They have gamers in mind.

You also get access to a solid number of classic NES, SNES, and Game Boy titles included.

Are they at least updating the classic game libraries with decent titles?

I've never bought this. Can you explain what you mean?My understanding is that I'll get access to a ton of classic games I grew up with for $20 Why should that be included in the price of the system? When I was a kid, you bought the system, it may have come with a game and a single controller and that's it. It seems my switch 1 is the same. I got a system, and if I want games/exttas then I need to pay. I'm not being snarky, I recently got a switch 1 for the kids (last Xmas) and my last system before this was an Xbox One

I'm new to the Nintendo Switch. Primarily single player. Any reason for me to subscribe to this?
