China or not, I got mine from the GK.iNets official store which has it for $339 - $60 code, which is a lot cheaper. (+29% CB)

Unfortunately SD prohibits AliExpress sales from overseas sellers. Items must ship from a US warehouse.

I'm with you though -- many of the best deals ship from the overseas store. I mean yeah, it can take 3-4 weeks to get here but the savings can be worth it.

What's the story on this device? Why so expensive for what appears to be just a battery operated Wi-Fi capable router?

I stopped posting in SD because of that. I know there is a better deal, and with SD being acquired by some other VC, SD is now just a paid marketing machine. Anyways, this deal can be had for $200 if you do some decent stacking. Not worth what it is listed at.

I'm assuming even when the sim/plan doesn't allow hotspots?

The Mudi 7 is also the only available FCC certified router from gl.inet available now, with Flint 4 and Slate 7 Pro that have applied and undergoing review currently.https://www.gl-inet.com/en-us/blo...elopments/

Is there spyware on it? Seriously because this kind of device is going to be difficult to audit.
