Good morning..
Hope everyone is safe and Irene is not as fearful as we believe
it is all raining, dark and gloomy...
woke up at 3:30 am, cleaned up and organized pantry...
drank a coffee and ate an omelette + drank a cup of milk...
DH broke the two rice cookers on the same day... he says that he heard a sound when he plugged the rice cooker, and same thing happened with the second rice cooker when plugged in the same outlet Confused
now i wonder what happened? I should have know atleast yesterday when the macy's deal was on, atleast i could have ordered one... I am so lost without a rice cooker...
I think i need another cup of coffee..kids are up and the DS#2 is so acting up with the piano with very loud volume and i am cranky!
You just can't catch a break, huh. Hoping your day gets better. nod

i think you need some chocolate and a martini. make that a chocolate martini! Big Grin
how about some kahlua in your coffee? Embarrassment

it is agitating to come home after a long trip and instead of being able to settle in find everything a mess. not cool.

test that outlet. might not be DH's fault. you might have a faulty outlet and it will burn out appliances that plug in there. at home depot, radio shack etc you can find outlet checkers for just a few bucks. you plug it in and the lights tell you whether the outlet is working correctly or not.

rice cooker: i don't have one. i always just use a regular pot and then just drain. never have any issues. i've cooked brown basmati, white basmati, white jasmine, wild rice, red rice, black rice, several types of long grain and short grain brown and white rice. they all need different cooking times and different amount of water, but still i never had an issue.

i just wash the rice well before putting in pot, so you wash away the extra starch to prevent stickiness. i cook on medium in a covered pot and allow for extra water in pot to prevent the rice from sticking to the bottom of the pot and scorching. that's it.
How are you greenie.. hope your PT appointments helps you and very glad to see you! hug

I never drank until now, except once i tasted wine that DH offered me, never liked the taste Embarrassment

I do cook over the stove-top too, and also use the pressure cooker a lot. somehow i am comfortable with using electric cooker for lots of mixed rice recipes, feel the marinade gets mixed right and rice still seperate and fluffy...

thank you, hon.
PT is helping. a lot. with mobility, especially. i have an excellent therapist.
but PT is not helping so much with pain. long road on that. hoping to see a specialist at a very highly regarded pain clinic either this week or the next.

sigh.

alcohol... the tastes of wines, and of different alcohols varies widely. it's like tasting one chicken recipe and not liking it. so if you think you'd like to try, just experiment and you might find something you like. and if not, that's cool too. hug

i see what you mean about the rice cooker. i had korean and japanese friends in college who LOVED their rice cookers and would always tell me they'd be lost without one. me, having never used one, i refused to start a love affair with one and then feel forlorn without it. i figure i'd let boys take care of that falling in love-feeling forlorn cycle for me. laugh out loud

This is exactly me as well. Also I have very limited storage space in the kitchen and I just cant see another single use item.
I've had good luck (mostly) cooking it on the stovetop with the burner turned super, low. recently someone told me you can cook it the crockpot; which seems plausible but entirely too slow for most things (although this would rememdy the marinade issue). I have half a mind to try it in the pressure cooker once just to see if it could be done.

rice does very very well in a pressure cooker.
i just don't have the patience to set it up and clean it up. laugh out loud
i have an older one, and everything gets coated in the sticky starchiness - yuk to clean.

when i cook with marinades and such - for example when i made spanish rice - i just saute it on the stovetop with whatever veggies etc and then i put it into a glass dish and put it in the oven. that way it cooks up beautifully without sticking, or scorching and i have the stovetop open for other things. i guess the oven is kinda like a rice cooker - an enclosed heated surround with continous even heat. a big deep saute pan also works well on the stovetop for me.

Rice cooks very well in the microwave. It isn't really isn't faster than stove top, but you don't have to worry about it scorching. If I make spanish rice, I just use the tomatoes rather than water and nuke it too.

you guys, for those of you that were looking for a natural shampoo and a natural conditioner, there is an amazingly slick deal over at aubrey organics. valid only until tonight.

5 of their shampoos are featured in a bogo deal with 5 of the conditioners. so pick a shampoo and a matching conditioner in the 11oz size. and the shampoo is free.
plus shipping is free also.
and on the checkout page, layer the code AUBREYNEWS for an additional 20% discount.

max of 3 sets per person. deal valid through tonight only.

from their email:

When you buy one of Aubrey's top-selling hair conditioners - GPB, Camomile Luxurious, Honeysuckle Rose, Rosa Mosqueta, or Blue Camomile - you get its full-size, 11-ounce companion shampoo, a $9.98 value, absolutely free. Each one is made without SLS or harsh detergents, artificial fragrance or dyes... just natural, gentle soaps combined with nourishing, moisturizing herbals that cleanse your hair without stripping its natural moisture, strengthen weak hair shafts, enhance natural highlights, and protect against discoloration.

their shampoos are only made with natural ingredients. contain no artiificial preservatives. no artificial fragrances. no sulfates. for those who are fragrance sensitive, it seems the chamomile and blue chamomile will be the mildest. i'm staying away from rose (gives me headaches pronto), honeysuckle and such essential oils.

i am not posting this as an HD thread yet (or perhaps at all) just so the deal doesn't sell out before any of you guys want in.

I always use the microwave as well. I do have a small rice cooker- what, I think it's a requirement for living in Hawaii laugh out loud- and I admit, it does make a very excellent sticky rice. I don't even have a pricey one, just the $30 ish one that Target/ Walmart sell.

Hi everyone...Not a whole lot of time to post lately. But if anyone makes it to Target this week, ya might want to check out the Febreze deal. I 'think' I saw signs up by the Febreze noticeables for $2.50 each, buy 5 get $5gc. And I 'think' there are $3mq in todays p&g.
I really meant to go back to that isle to really read the signs better but was so crowded and I was in a hurry. If someone gets a chance to check it out, please let me know what you find out. This could be an awesome deal.
Our target is coupon hell here lately so I haven't been much. But this might be worth an extra trip or 2. lol
