1 year Free Amazon Prime Membership for College Students

+3989 Deal Score
965,215 Views
Attention college students!
1 year Free Amazon Prime membership

Did a search and couldn't find this:

www.amazon.com/student

Requires:
-Valid .edu e-mail address
-Specify college, year and major
Quote :
To sign up for and use Amazon Student, you must (1) have an Amazon.com account, (2) be a college student actively enrolled in at least one course at a college geographically located in one of the 50 United States or the District of Columbia, (3) be able to provide proof of enrollment upon request and (4) have a valid e-mail address that contains the domain suffix .edu.
Go here to Sign Up [amazon.com]

Everything else is self-explanatory. Go to prime and manage your account. Should be activated and have an ending date 1 year from sign-up date. You are even able to add family members to the account like a regular prime subscription.

Updates to answer questions

Q: Will this automatically renew?
A: NO!
Quote :
The automatic renewal provisions in the Amazon Prime Terms & Conditions (which would require you to pay for Amazon Prime) do not apply to this membership, even if we decide to extend the free Amazon Prime offer beyond one year.
Q: Can I get this if I'm not a student (even if I have a .edu e-mail address)?
A: You might be able to. And you might not.
If you do not qualify and they catch you, Amazon will make you reimburse them for their costs
Quote :
If you do not provide documentation indicating that you meet the eligibility requirements above, you may be required to reimburse us for benefits you received as a result of your Amazon Student membership.
*I am not the arbiter of morality, but please don't abuse this by signing up if you do not meet Amazon's requirements*

Q: What happens if I already have a prime account?
A: I'm not sure, however people are reporting that if they currently have a prime account and they sign-up for the Amazon Student account, the following happens:
1. Their current prime account gets cancelled and they get a pro-rated refund
2. They get signed up for the free 1 year amazon student prime

Q: My .edu address isn't my Amazon.com address -- do I have to create a new account?
A: No
Quote :
If your .edu e-mail address isn't listed on your Amazon.com account, that's OK. The only e-mail we'll send to your .edu e-mail address is the verification e-mail. After that, other Amazon Student e-mails will be sent to the e-mail address listed on your Amazon.com account.
Q: Ohh my gosh, this is amazing, how can I thank you!?!?!
A: Students are notoriously poor. Many have to work minimum-wage jobs while taking classes to pay for rent, tuition and food. Let a student know about this deal and help them save money. Also, donating old books you have lying around the house to schools and libraries (especially those dealing with budget cuts) could potentially enrich a child's life and help them get interested in many different subjects and put them on the path to higher education.

"Join Amazon Student and get FREE Two-Day Shipping for one year with a free Amazon Prime membership ($79 value), as well as e-mail alerts for exclusive promotions. There is no cost to join--simply sign up by providing your school and major. If youre not a student, you may still be eligible for a free trial of Amazon Prime."

EDIT: This is really crazy!! Almost 2750 thumbs ups and counting! -- Over 3900 reps (I started with only 17!) Thanks everyone for all the support!

Here's the back story of how this deal came about: My sister-in-law really wanted a prime account since their's had just ended a short time go. She kept asking if I wanted to split one with her and my other siblings, but the rest of us weren't so keen on the idea because we didn't have that much of a need for it.

Fast forward to yesterday afternoon, she calls me and tells me about this Amazon Student thing and asks if I've ever heard of it. I told her no and did a search on slickdeals and google and couldn't find a thing on it. I went to the website she gave me and saw that you get Prime free for a year if you're a student, etc. etc. I verified it worked and that you could add family members to the account.

As soon as that happened, I posted it here since I've been a member for a while, but never posted a deal before (everyone is really quick on the uptake for this kind of stuff so by the time I find out about something, it's probably been on here for days already). I wanted to give back to everyone and this was the perfect opportunity.

The rest as they say, is history (1 day old history!)

interesting read for those new to amazon prime - amazon primer

Hello Sd'ers Wave

Friendly Warning....There's absolutely no begging or pleading to be added to their amazon prime account. The mods are aware of this and is strictly prohibited within our terms, policies & conditions of slickdeals. Please refrain yourself from any further type of begging/pleading posts or comments for invites within this thread. Thank you...

-DJ3

What does invite others to use prime mean (under the account tab) does this mean to authorize others to use my prime account for free, or does it mean to invite others that have a edu. e-mail to sign up???
^You can invite anyone (up to 4 others), with any email address to share your Prime account. You won't see any of their purchase and they won't see any of yours.
Family invites may say that they are only for one month (at least it was for my wife) but they also get a full year and 4 invites!!! - Morning_Breath

- well, for the invites it said Subscription Duration = 1 month. However, the prime account showed valid until Jul 13, 2011. So we will know if it is valid for 1-year ONLY after 30 days.

FAQ [amazon.com]

Terms and Conditions [amazon.com]

If you sign up for an Amazon Student membership, for the first year of that membership, you will receive one free year of Amazon Prime. We may choose to extend this free offer for more than one year. With Amazon Prime, you will be entitled to FREE Two-Day shipping and $3.99 per unit One-Day shipping on all eligible purchases for one year. The automatic renewal provisions in the Amazon Prime Terms & Conditions (which would require you to pay for Amazon Prime) do not apply to this membership, even if we decide to extend the free Amazon Prime offer beyond one year. There is no minimum purchase requirement. Amazon Student members will also be entitled to discounts and promotions, which we will communicate to you via e-mail or make available on the Amazon Student membership page at www.amazon.com/student.

Please use a current .edu e-mail address. Alumni addresses are not eligible.
sanjeeva7 - oh well it was worth a shot!!

This applies to graduate students as well as there is a choice for "graduate student" when signing up.

For those who are thinking about frauding the system, think again. Enrollment can easily be verified by using this website [National Student Clearinghouse - EnrollmentVerify School Participants]: http://www.studentclearinghouse.o...chools.asp HOWEVER, for Amazon to use this to verify enrollment would cost $$ - usually something like $2-5 per enrollment check request. Rather, they can just ask YOU to provide "proof" of your enrollment - no idea what would be considered proof - and do it that way. The best advice is to at least be prepared to give them SOMETHING if you have to.

RE: Auto-renewal
This is nothing to worry about. If they do end up charging you, just call them and tell them you'd like to cancel. I had a three month trial renew on me, which I didn't catch until over a month later. I called, said I never used the service and didn't want to keep it, and they gave me a full refund on the spot.

Inviting household members
Invitation works like normal! Each Student Prime account may share the Prime benefits with 4 other people like a normal paid Prime account. -aznkuo
To invite a friend or family member, go here: https://www.amazon.com/gp/subs/pr...epage.html

Current Prime Members
You should receive an email automatically from Amazon showing that your old Prime membership was canceled and they are issuing a pro-rated refund. This has been confirmed by multiple $D members. Some users report this email being blocked by spam filters, so if you don't get it, check your spam folder.

Deal Expires
Currently unknown

School-Specific Information
Any Northwestern Univ (Evanston, IL) undergrads should use the @northwestern.edu that is hidden in the system....ie [email protected]. your @u.northwestern.edu account will NOT be accepted for this promo. Might work for grad students too, YMMV -Your friendly Wildcat, dragonflight

Well hopefully you two are enrolled in reading classes in college because you sure didn't get that education in high school.

HINT:

1. This thread is over 2 years old.
2. Logical progression of thought.....maybe this deal isn't still valid.
3. Next progression of thought.....maybe I should at least read the last page of the thread to see if this has been asked and answered before?

THANK YOU! YOU ARE AMAZING!

Was only able to get 6 months, not a year but who cares!

I also chatted with an amazon rep, and they updated my 3 pending orders with the supersaver 2 day shipping!

It seems to be politically incorrect to require reading comprehension and basic writing skills these days. I went back to school for a second degree and I was astounded by the fact that some of the people graduating alongside me (400-level courses) were still unable to form a complete sentence.

WOW! SUPER helpful. Thanks for taking the time to make fun of someone who you don't know and aren't in front of. To address your response:

1. Yup, got it. That has nothing to do with my question.
2. See below
3. OH! Read beyond the first post that is over two years old? Well thanks, Einstein, for the sarcasm. My question was in response to the people who, this past month, had joined and gotten 6 months for free. I was only able to find a 50% off offer.

Maybe take your own advice and read the last page of the thread.

Let me rephrase the question so it doesn't confuse people.

Where did you, who just signed up for 6 free months of Amazon Prime for Students, find the offer? Is there a link?

Thanks, in advance.

I feel like I'm in the twilight zone. Do you keep repeating yourself because you don't know the answer to the question?

Anyone...is there a link or a specific way to get the 6 months for free? Reading a post that says "6 months free" is not an instruction on how or where to sign up for the offer.

My, my, my.

I don't understand why it's so difficult to find. Did you try clicking on the signup link in the first post, which goes straight to a 6-month free trial? Confused

Thanks for the reply. Yes, I clicked on the link and it went to the Amazon student prime page. It offered 50% off only. I will go ahead and contact Amazon directly tomorrow.

That link (which goes here: http://www.amazon.com/gp/student/signup/info) takes me to a page that offers "Amazon Prime shipping benefits free for six months," whether I'm logged into my account or opening the page in Chrome Incognito (and therefore not logged in). Have you used the offer before on your account already? I don't see why it'd be showing you something different, since it shows me the 6-month offer even if I'm not logged in.

That could be the problem....I had a free baby account before. I thought I read earlier in this post that some people have done multiple free prime offers, though. I'll follow through with amazon tomorrow.
