Well, start with the intro classes and see how you do with those. I'll tell you right now, if you struggle with the intro classes, the more advanced classes will be much more difficult.

And if you decide it's not a right fit, they'll at least transfer for science credits towards another degree.

If you like sociology, what about being a guidance counselor or something? Dontknow
I think I'm just going to worry about my basics right now and I'll have at least a year to make up my mind

I won't get to go full time this fall or spring anyways...I really can't afford it until I get some kind of federal aid

I suppose the price will dictate if that's a SlickDeal or not. Is $515 what you actually paid? Battery life with that T4500 isn't going to be spectacular. 2.5 to 3 hours probably.
The T series of Pentium Dual-Core processors have just fine battery life. I still can get over 3.25 hours on a full charge if I push it on this laptop, and it has a T3400 in it. I started out with almost 5 hours (I think I clocked in at 4 hours, ~50 minutes) when this was brand new.

Don't blame the processor for the battery's problems.

Well I just ask because through all my classes I'm taking, like 80% of the other students are nursing majors, but midway through the class, they start dropping like flies. My chem class last semester, we lost half the students.

I would just hate for you to dedicate all that time and find out it's not a good fit or something.
There's a difference in students dropping and not showing up.

We lost like half my Chem class last semester, but it was just them not showing up anymore laugh out loud.

Yeah, I know what you mean. The way the system works really kind of sucks for a kid just out of high school. You're at the mercy of your parents' income until you're 23.

To be honest, I'm glad I stopped going after my freshman year for a while. I didn't appreciate the experience, I had NO CLUE how to manage finances, and I had no clue what kind of monumental debt I was taking on in getting student loans.

Now that I'm going back several years later, I'm able to actually get the financial aid I need. (You know, since my parents had basically zero money for me to go to college with anyway.) Plus, I appreciate the privilege of a post-secondary education. It is a privilege to get to go to college. And when I'd just graduated high school, I didn't see it that way. I just saw it as another few years where I was stuck in school where I didn't want to be.

To make a long story short, don't force it. If you need to take more time to make up your mind, take it. Smilie

I can/will have to use my mom's income next year (good for me though I'll get a full pell grant) but right now I'm in limbo between still being an Alabama resident and a Georgia resident and out of state tuition is just ridiculous

but you're missing the college experience Dontknow there is real value of being in college at 18-22. I learned more in college than I did in grad school. Albeit, much of the lessons were painful, but it really shaped me the way I needed.

As for the finances, you won't believe the insane financial aid available out there. You really need to spend 1 full week to research it. Luckily, my parents were dirt poor when I was in college and with my grades in HS, I was available for numerous grants for smartass kids with poor parents, scholarships, etc. I ended up taking only a bit in student loans, which I blew on having fun (one of those painful lessons laugh out loud)

Yeah, this was Chem II - everyone there had already passed Chem I. And it wasn't because they stopped showing up. Maybe one or two, but not most of them. About six of them withdrew on the last possible day, because despite attending every class, they weren't passing.

The couple of people sitting next to me couldn't understand the material to save their lives. And I get it - it was a LOT of math and calculus, and people in general hate math. It's like one of the most hated subjects.

Yeah, establishing residency is a huge PITA. Do NOT do out-of-state tuition, that's way too much money.

I spent the first year in college. I joined a sorority. I lived in a dorm, I had roommates. And to be honest, I was tired of it by the end of the spring semester. laugh out loud Yes, there were some experiences I found valuable.

But one of the biggest myths about college is that everyone should experience the EXACT SAME path, and it can and should only be done during the four years after high school. And that's not true. Not everyone is going to get the same thing out of it, and not everyone should have the exact same experiences.

I'm taking classes with 18-22 year-olds now. And I see the same attitude in them that I had. They don't care about their studies. They don't care about learning anything. All they care about is going enough to coast through their classes so they can get that little piece of paper at the end of four years. They care more about the next party they're going to than just about anything else.

I'm sure some actually care about the education aspect of it, but the ones in my classes, most of them really don't.

I see the benefits of both going to college at 18 and waiting till you're 25 or so. I think though the longer you wait, the harder it will be, and most people in college already have a hard time.

This. The amount of financial aid out there is just astounding. It really is.

I'm in a single income house, I'm the only dependent my parents have and all that, and my EFC (that magical number that apparently dictates how much financial aid you need) is less than 2500- and it was as low as 1400, except I actually went back and fixed it so that it was accurate based off my parents' tax returns.

Even with an EFC of 2500 though, my financial aid at FSU is every penny of their Cost of Attendance (and my actual cost isn't this high). Plus, as a Junior with a GPA above a 3.0 and a Science major, I qualify for so many grants it's almost disgusting. Whereas this past year my financial aid (aside from loans) was lacking due to 2008 records, the coming year is almost absurd. My cost of attending FSU actually dropped this year, even though everything went up (no lie Facepalm). I might not even take out student loans this year.
