The course didn't prepare you for the AP exam. That's kinda why we didn't take the exam.

If you weren't in IB, it's hard to explain it. It really is. Basically, it boils down to AP Calc teaching some topics, and the IB Math class I was in teaching other topics, with Calc being one of those topics.

I'll see if I can find a link that helps explain it. I'm horrible at explaining things, but explaining IB vs AP isn't easy to explain. It basically is that AP is a US program, while IB is international. The AP exams are administered by a US organization and the College Board oversees the program and everything, while the IB program is HQ'd in Switzerland.

In reference to AP Calculus I was only familiar with AB and BC variants. I used to do some volunteering at a local high school years ago for the BC test prep after school program.

Partly. I assaulted a student with a wicked Taylor Series.

But that story goes off on a tangent really...

http://www.ibo.org That's the website for IB.

Like I said, it's hard to explain. Easiest way to explain AP vs IB is that you can take an AP course, and be an AP student, but you can't take just one IB course, you're in for six courses or not at all.

My HS had a small IB program (~100 freshmen, ~45 make it to graduation), so we had pretty crappy course choices. We had three electives- Chemistry, Physics, and Theatre, and these were the only classes you could choose. The only other class you really had a say in was whether you were in IB Math that focused on Calc, or IB Math that focused on Prob and Stat.

I did take AP courses though. I also was an AP Scholar. I took European History, US History, Spanish and Biology. Calc AB and BC were optional, but not recommended, and you paid the $80+ to take the exam. Plus, for senior year, our IB exams conflicted with the Calc BC exam, so if you were going to take it, you took the retake.... which was after graduation. Of the 8 of us that could take the BC exam, none did laugh out loud.
