Just about the only good thing my governor did in the last 4 years was get a law passed that requires that universities have the book lists published like 30 or 60 days before the semester starts, so students are able to shop around. Still doesn't stop them from not publishing them online
As of right now, classes start August 23. We're within 30 days and two of my classes don't have any books listed. If I didn't know what books were required and already had shopped around, I wouldn't likely know before the first day of classes, and then would flock to the bookstore and buy them there.

It fits him, doesn't it?!
oh and text book wise. i'm one of the suckers that buy from the book store. i know international/used/older versions are close to what i needed. the time difference between when i got it/ the time put in figuring in the reordering of problems and whatever wasn't worth the 20-40 on resell.
the profs at ucsd didn't really release their booklist till first week to encourage sales.
It really is. If it wasn't for there needing to be a drop/add period, I'd suggest financial aid being given out the day classes start. Or at least the bookstore not marking up shit so much.
I spent like $300 on books last semester. Then I spent $100 on online access for classes. That needs to be listed on the course description, I think, or at least textbook lists. Something like "This course uses the [name] online homework system, which costs [price]." It was truly annoying to find out the first week of classes that I needed to spend $100 I didn't have on online access or I'd likely fail the course.
Yeah. Before financial aid is disbursed, the bookstore gives out the paperwork to fill out, to have any textbook purchases deducted from your financial aid. Both semesters last year I made it without needing to do that. This year though I might need to do it.
