Yeah, tell me about it. My Psych professor last year was a TA (intro class), and he goes "I learned with the old edition, and I've updated my notes and everything to the new one. Yep. I don't even think I will sell some of my textbooks back. The required computer literacy class has a textbook that costs $7 from Amazon. It's pretty useless to me, but it's not worth selling it to anyone. I still saved over $70 buying it from Amazon for $8 instead of from the bookstore for $81 with the CD (got the CD free woot).

Problem is, financial aid disbursement is often weeks into the semester. FSU does it at the end of the 1st week (2nd Monday in the semester it's direct deposited into your SunTrust account), but other schools are terrible. My SIL bought my Oceanography textbook for $45 from the community college here, I picked it up and paid her back when I came home 10 days later, and she still had 2 weeks to wait to get her financial aid.

That's where people get screwed. If you're dependent upon financial aid, you often just bite the bullet instead of being 3-4 weeks in and not having your book. Hell, at the community college they don't disburse financial aid till like Week 6, of a 15 week semester!

Yeah, that's true - we don't get our financial aid for THIRTY DAYS after the first day of the semester. Mad

That's such crap.

So once the book lists are put out, I slowly buy one or two at a time for that month or two before the semester begins. I never have to spend more than $100 or so for an entire semester, so spread out over a month or more, it's not that bad. Big Grin

I just cut back a little till I get my financial aid. But yeah, some people can't afford to that, which sucks. Annoyed

Stupid universities, take advantage of people like that.

yep! the Doc was going to keep him off for a few more days but he has no vacation & very little sick time. So he told the Doc he would like to go back on light duty. He is out a lot lately. He will be taking 75% ss in Oct when he is 62. At that time he may work 2 days a week. Frown
