From what I am reading it seems like it's more to bring different groups together.
Here, most kids just got put in advanced classes. My nephew was actually so smart, they didn't have any classes advanced enough for him so he attended college classes instead. ( all 4 years of HS..)
My niece is on a full scholarship starting in the fall which would have been 30k+ for her BA in Engineering. Both graduated with "high honors" and were on the "Honor Society".
They are both wicked smaaat..
( and NO I did not go to one..
