Wow... all the folks that have had encounters with the same thing our little nephew has is amazing. I didn't realize it would be so common. I am feeling like we are very fortunate because they did go ahead and send him home today instead of keeping him. I guess they caught it before it got super serious then! Thank Providence he's doing well!

ROFLOL - toddler is sitting in her chair waiting on dinner. She looks like she is one blink away from passing out. She's clutching her stuffed spider and leaning wayyyyy over in her seat.

Went to the asian market. Spent a lot of money! Yikes... I went produce crazy. We're having pollock today, mashed cauliflower with cheese, and sauteed baby bok choy. I'm so hungry... *laugh*

I also picked up a coconut vinegar to try - it's actually got a bit of a subtle sweet flavor to it. I think I will add various vinegars and things to our pantry to try. Anything to add different flavors!

I made a quick run to T. They had some kids clothes marked down to 1.25/1.50. Grabbed 3 pairs of pants for dd - 1 for this year, 2 for next. SSSSOOOOOOOO wish there was a circo TQ. I would just go crazy. Baby clearance isn't marked down anymore yet, but I think I will try to check every day and see - I just have a feeling it will go down this week.

There were a few women's c9 things that were clearanced - got DD a hoodie that was marked 4.98 and a pair of shorts to wear over her bathing suit. There was NO men's c9 clearance - I'm hoping that a rack magically appears later this week or next.

I also saw that they were setting up a bulk section - looked like lots of multi-packs of deo and detergent being put out. Not much else to see yet. They had 30% off of some summer things - like gladware, plastic cups, etc... I hope it goes down lower. I did get a 4pk of plastic cups cuz DH had requested them. They had personal (smallish) water bottles (the stainless steel ones), but regular price was 14.99. I'm so not wanting to pay that much for a water bottle. I don't think I'd even pay 50%.

Oh - weird thing happened when I sent DD to get a soda at the food center. She took one of my GC's that I got last time, and it wouldn't take it. It spit out some receipt thing with a phone number to call or something. I have to look again at it, but it was weird. Has anyone had that happen before? I had it happen before, but thought maybe they gave me an unactivated card so I tossed it. (grrr) I guess I need to call and see what is going on. Frown

Well, I'm glad that if this update had to happen at all, that it happened now. I haven't felt much like shopping at all anyway and won't feel like it for awhile. Now I won't feel so guilty about all the expired coupons that I have.

So after months we finally got the official assessment today - and the diagnosis is that he has Aspberger's with some strong/need to deal with issues of Anxiety & OCD. He also low muscle something or other which is causes some of the physical issues & speech things. She did say that the person who said he might have ADD was nuts because he was the OPPOSITE of ADD --- lol so even with the experts there is disagreement. We talked about Autism Spectrum but she was not absolutely sure that was the appropriate diagnosis so she didn't want to give that one ... something about the fact that he wishes that he had friends sometimes although he has a total inability to make them and that those with autism don't want friends apparently.

However - all that being said - he is high functioning ... he is academically gifted and can function (although his functioning is impaired) so he can not be seen/helped by their program as it is for the severely disabled/non-functioning kiddos. She said that the local programs that exist that take our insurance are only for the disablied/non-functioning kids --- and the programs for kiddos like him who need special help/training won't take our insurance. She said the best bet was through the school and see if they will give him an OT and whatever else they might have. Also she thinks that the anxiety/OCD part needs to be looked at from the psychiatric perspective so I start again with those morons who cancelled our appointment and have not YET found a time that they can work us in. I will also start investigating what programs exist and see what is doable ---

Hi Cherry Wave Good to see ya!!!!!!! Yeah they told me the same thing about my last 3 kiddos - them being HUGE and although my lil guy's head was in something like the 98th percentile he was normal sized in the 7 pound something range ... and the two girlies were 8 somethings ... don't let em skeer you!!! I don't think that size measuring equip is very reliable! Oh and don't worry about the expiring Q's - you have more important stuff to do Smilie

I thought I was past this stupid germ session - my sore throat had gone away and I felt better and now for the last coupld of days my throat has been getting worse again and now my tongue/throat& glands are all swollen and hurt. I am sitting here wearing a scarf around my neck trying to cook the sore throat out! LOL

Dec, I hope the assessment goes smoothly. If there is anything I can help with, please let me know.
It went ok - the doc seemed to be nice & know her stuff --- she was reluctant to diagnose but she said there is pressure now-a-days to diagnose fewer kids as there was over-dignosing going on in the past. She said went through some diagnosis criteria and said he had multiple elements --- didn't fit neatly into any 1 box --- and she doesn't know where he might be in a couple of years .... we shall see what help I can get for him.

Complain complain complain - I feel like doody! BAH! Sorry - stop whining!

D, that is a load of bull about pressure to NOT diagnose kids. Makes me want to punch someone. As a doctor, her first priority is getting a child's assessment right so you know how to help him. It isn't meeting some imaginary standard for how many kids theoretically should be on the spectrum. Mad

There are some that would suggest that ADHD is very close to the spectrum, and there are a number of children on the spectrum that have a co-morbid ADD/ADHD diagnosis. My 11 yr old daughter is one of them. She has Asperger's and ADHD. My 8 yr old son's diagnosis is high functioning autism. The school district thought it was "just" ADHD. He has had and continues to have some issues with low muscle tone, especially the fine muscles needed for writing (as an example).

And that is so completely not true that people with autism don't want friends. Saying that is like saying autism is caused by mothers that don't love their children enough/ show them enough affection (ie the old "refrigerator mother" belief). There is more I could write but it will just continue to piss me off that a specialist fed you this bull. hug

Hmmm.... so I wonder if this was one that had been used before and someone reported it lost/stolen. That is so weird and highly annoying. Stress Cuz, like I have nothing else better to do.

ARGH!
That's what happened to me. I was issued a gc that started with a zero balance. The gc deal I did loaded $5 onto it. It was denied when I tried to use it later. Cust svc sorted it out though and their detective work said that the person who had the card before me had reported it lost/stolen. It was a hassle, but the best part was that I never used to receive target coupons in the mail before this complaint, and I started getting them afterwards! nod

As far as the argument of the week...
Did anyone here Jay Leno the other night? He told his guest (I think it was Biden) that a lesson he learned early on was to never question another person's intent. Question their judgement, but never their intent. This is in keeping with one of the parenting books I read and it has helped me tremendously. It said something like, "Always attribute positive intent to someone's actions." I've been working on myself in trying to follow these types of principles, and I have to say it makes me a happier person. At least, I'm doing pretty well with everyone in my life except DH as I pretty much always "ass"ume that he is doing whatever is annoying me on purpose! LMAO

Super big hugs to all the folks out there dealing with autism. We have had numerous behavioral issues with one of our ds's, and we finally hit on 3 things that we think have helped.
1 - Removed plastics containing bpa. No cups, no plates, nothing.
2 - We think ds has a sensitivity to salicylate foods. Lots of info here [salicylatesensitivity.com].
3 - Experimented with several Omega-3 supplements, and finally settled on Nordic Naturals. DS takes the lemon-flavored liquid mixed in a medicine cup with apple juice. We really see a difference in him when he skips it for too many days.

DS also takes claritin and nasonex. Allergist originally gave us samples of Allegra, and it made ds CRAZY!!! Like bouncing off the walls, argumentative, NUTS! Switched back to claritin (actual claritin, not generic) and it's doing well for him.

hug hug So sorry to hear this. I am confused that she didn't want to discuss the Autism Spectrum as Aspergers is in the Autism spectrum Huh get another opinion. A diagnosis of Aspergers with associated anxiety at least should qualify him for special classes, therapy, IEPs and access to school psychologists, etc. You may even want to consider seeing a neuropsychologist. They can sometimes be helpful at assessing neurological disorders vs psychological disorders, or how one can affect the other (does that make sense?)

I know what you mean... I think that being on every day can sometimes be worse because you do end up reading/getting caught up in all the crud instead of skimming through to the good stuff.

I had the opposite issue with my oldest. They kept telling me I would have a little 7 lbr (at most)... she was 9 lb 8 oz, 22 1/2 inches!!! They also refused to do anything when I swore my water broke - the doc basically told me I didn't know what I was talking about because it was my first kid and that it wasn't time yet. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

I hope you are keeping your spirits up and making it through. Seems I am getting more and more easily worn out and just want to sit around and do nothing until the baby comes! I can only imagine what you are feeling like with 2 weeks to go! I have 5 weeks, 2 day... (not that i"m counting or anything... lol)

Hmm... just realized that the 20th is a Friday. I went into labor with the last one on a Friday night. laugh out loud Of course, I'm kind of hoping this one decides to come sooner...

hug I'm glad you are getting a diagnosis and hopefully will be able to make good decisions on what to do. I don't know much about AS or autism, so I am sorry that I am not much help there. I think it is bizarre that they will work with disabled/non-functioning individuals, but the ones with some real hope for actual survival and integration into society are just left to flounder. Why don't they want their quality of life and functioning improved??? *THAT* makes no sense to me.

And good grief - I do enough complaining and whining for 3 people on a severely regular basis. If you can't whine or complain *here* of all places, what else is there!!?? Whine away dear! Whine away!!

In fact... here's some whining...

I'm sooooo tired!!! My oldest wanted to go swimming, so I took her to the gym last night and joined her. Pshew... I'm still worn out! My toddler is very snuggly today. It's a bit of a challenge to snuggle, type, and hold a toddler in my lap with this big old belly in the way!!

DH looked at me last night and exclaimed "You look so HUGE!!!" *laugh* Then he asked me if I felt like I was bigger than with my last one and I looked at him like he had 3 heads and said, "um... yeah... I wore my maternity clothes the WHOLE pregnancy, and now I'm at the point where I can wear 1 pair of pants and 1 shirt without feeling like I'm bursting out of them!!" He's like, "Oh, yea..." *laugh* He's so funny. He was so sweet and rubbed my legs last night for a LONG time. It felt great. My legs have been cramping a lot. I'm also getting hip pains and they feel like they are getting dislocated or something - I have to be careful walking because it feels like I can throw myself out of joint - if that makes sense. Thankfully, my pains aren't constant - just occasional annoyances! DH told me last night that I am so adorable and cute when pregnant and he's going to miss seeing me like this. That was nice to hear - especially since I basically feel like a beach ball with legs lately! laugh out loud

Well... going to go sneak to the couch and snuggle there I think. Smilie

Dia - I have a DD (my oldest) with the same diagnosis although she is very very mildly involved. She is SUPER smart but her social skills are pathetic. She can't read people so she can't adjust to their cues when communicating. It's frustrating. She also has a few rituals that have to be performed each day in order - she says it makes her 'feel better'. It freaks me out but whatever makes her feel better....is your little guy younger than 5? Because if so, every state has early intervention and I'd be calling them ASAP. They even have a preschool and they can bring the OT and Speech in to there. PM me if I can help hug
