DS is sick again and in surgery right now. I've been at the hospital most of the day just ran home to let the dog out and grab a bit of dinner before going back.
Another shunt failure and he is so sick again. This time, they have to replace the whole thing, and are going to try to place the tubing from his head into some tissue around his lung. I don't know. Dia, try to use the school system as much as possible. I went the private route and even with insurance, it was horribly expensive. I finally found out about contacting the school system and now she's had an IEP through the county for 1.5 years now and has progressed wonderfully. No one can really give us a complete diagnosis either and we've seen a number of specialists. The best thing they can say is the umbrella diagnosis of PDD-NOS like Teri mentioned. She excells at a lot of areas, but has trouble with language and some social situations. The therapy she receives through the school has group therapy that focuses directly on these issues and helps understand ways to use techniques at home to continue her progress. Aspergers is part of the Autism spectrum, so I don't know why she said it isn't. The Autism spectrum really is huge and every child is different with different characteristics you have to work on. Research and be your own advocate. I know we're in a much better place than we were a year ago
