I have a radiated iodine uptake test scheduled and I am on a low iodine diet for the moment - not coming online much as I feel as if I have been run over by a cement roller just after running a marathon ... this is crazy I have NO NO NO energy at all. Anyway - so I have no idea what is going on or what coupons to look for -

*snip*

Rachael - Did they ever tell you what caused your thyroid issues? So far no one knows with mine - it just sucks! But I am sure you know all about that! Hope you & your baby are doing well!!
Hi sugar plum hug I was just wondering about you. No, they don't know what caused mine. Oddly, though, my SIL had the same cancer except hers didn't spread like mine did. Several others in my town also got it but there doesn't seem to be much of a connection.

I noticed for years that something was amiss - weight gain, hair loss, t.i.r.e.d., foggy-headed but 'passed' all the tests. Later, right after the baby was born - I went to the doctor with a lump in my throat, he sent me for an ultrasound & they found the tumor. A fine needle biopsy showed cancer. Surgery confirmed it had spread to lymph nodes, etc. Took I131 radiation therapy and still waiting to pass my follow-ups. Embarrassment

So, although I noticed thyroid problems before the cancer was found - they really were dismissive to me b/c I was thin and "too young". You're supposed to be fat, frazzled & forty. I was skinny, tired & twenty five. LOL

*sigh* could soooooo use a kids apparel tq!!!

I took back the extra moby wrap I had gotten and an extra brita pitcher (another one of those "how many do I need" things). I got 2 more merona bags, 1 pk of c9 women's t-shirts - they were repackaged and priced at 5.61, so .61 after TQ! I figured I'll need something to wear around the house after baby is born. I did a dumb thing and got rid of a lot of clothes early on in my pregnancy... need to start replacing some!

Got dh a pair of workout shorts & shirt - c9 q beeped on shirt but not on shorts - it had previously gone through on the shirt. *shrug* K1'd, so no problem there.

2 cans of chef - .99, q auto'd so 2 free cans to entertain the toddler with for lunch tomorrow.

Found some circo shorts for .75!

Also found on clearance a baby car seat for $14.98 - reg price $69.99! We don't need a baby car seat, but I picked it up and figured maybe I could craigslist it. Is that awful?? DCPI: 030090154 [amazon.com]

I also got the pack & play I've been wanting for $34.98. I was afraid to wait and see if it'd go lower. DCPI: 030090155 [amazon.com]

My dad had thyroid cancer and had to have his removed. When I was 18 the doctor said my thyroid was enlarged. They did an u/s of it and thought they saw something so I did the radiation uptake next. They said it was all clear. All of my tests have been normal but I always worry. How often should it be checked?

dec12girl-- I hope you get it worked out and get to feeling better. hughug

We got that one awhile back and loved it. It was super easy to set up and take down.

I am the world's worst of buying baby things I don't need for resale. Tonight I got some bath mittens that were 75% off.

*laugh* I don't normally do that, but I seriously thought $15 for a car seat was a steal... If *nothing* else, I will save it and give to someone who has a kid! I'm sure we'll have a baby shower to go to in the future!

And thanks for the info on the pack & play - I was hoping for easy set up/take down.

There were some cheap bedding sets for around $16 tonight, but I don't know how that resells. There were a few things I would've liked to get. I saw a folding table/chairs kids set for $25 - I soooooooooooo want that for DD! It wasn't obvious that it was on clearance, so I'm hoping it sits there until I either have cash/gc/or some major amazing overage deal to get it.

Mavis has been soooo so so active today. It's kind of amusing. And slightly painful... lol.

Man - been waiting on DH to get home from work/gym. He's kind of later than normal. Frown If it were me, it'd be no big deal cuz I don't run on schedules or use the phone often laugh out loud . DH, on the other hand... Mr. Punctuality/Call-you-now!

Has anyone had success in reselling the kids clothes? There are some cheap shorts and stuff right now (.75-1.00) I'd be tempted to just buy the whole rack out if I could resell it at a profit.

Hmmm - so far no clue as to the cause of my problems ... I have had my thyroid checked before and it has been fine - - - I *think* from the way I am feeling that this is what happened after I had my last daughter because my BP went thru the roof something like 200/130 and they put me on meds right away. I also got really sick (nothing to do with thyroid) but they didn't test my thyroid so I will never know. I guess I fit the mold - tired, worn out, fat, frazzled and not yet forty ... although they seemed really surprised because they said without a family history or some sort of infection most people do not suddenly develop thyroid problems before they are in their 70's or so. On an ironic note I would like to say that I think it is absolutely unfair that I have a really HYPERACTIVE thyroid and I am not losing weight. That is just cause someone somewhere has a sense of humor ... One of the things they told me was that the leading cause of thyroid problems was family history - so I would make sure they do periodic blood work to make sure your thyroid is ok - with your Dad having that I would guess that increases your risk hug hug

Good luck on your house hunt, don't wait too long as inflation is starting to hit ,
finacial experts are saying it's going to be bad. Unless of course your looking on the Gulf, nea the water that oil spill is probalby going to devalue alot of those homes. I feel bad for those homeowners.

My family has a long history of thyroid problems. Don't let anyone dismiss your concerns! My mom, grandma, aunts, both older sisters are all on thyroid meds. My levels bounce between the low end of normal to below normal but my doc won't send me to an endocrinologist, something I really need to put my foot down about. Like others posted, I have all the symptoms.

Someone I know online mentioned a less well-known one for hypothyrodism, that the outer edges of the eyebrows disappear. I had been using a brow pencil for so l hadn't noticed that the outer edges were just a few straggly hairs. Hmm.

Anyone else looking at the 7/31 exp coupons and just feeling exhausted? laugh out loud

OMG I missed the B1G2 crayola's LMAO We aren't looking to move until at least next summer to fall so I guess we have time... the one house we looked at dropped a whole $100,000 which is crazy and that was within a month of looking at it. Very nice house, however, I am very cautious about living on the water with the kids... kids just move too fast for more esp. near water LOL Sending many HUGS!! How is your son doing? And the other kiddos? Are you homeschooling??

I know we have 3 in diapers...it is chaos here but the older kids are getting more and more expensive... for Christmas it was laptops now it's Ipod touchs and if one gets it then the other has to or else!?! LOL I feel horrid for those homeowners in that area too as they are experiencing horrid property depreciation and hazardous situation to live in. HUGS!!

Thank you everyone for your kind words. I really appreciate it so much. Dreemedayze, their baby was in a car seat, on the basket in the shopping cart and right next to his mom the whole time. It was nuts! Skynsam, I didn't know that... thank you for telling me.

Right now I don't care so much about that crazy couple anymore. Too occupied freaking out about the surgery (not until the end of August). I met with my Dr today. I thought it would be just a small cut to take out the two lymph nodes, but I found out that it is a neck dissection to remove all of the lymph nodes, the scar will run from under my ear all across the neck to the base of my neck. I know I sound stupid and vain, but I don't want a big scar all across my neck. I was told that it is not uncommon to loose feeling from the ear to the shoulders. I'm really scared and don't want to have the surgery. But then the cancer will continue to grow and I want to be around for my daughter.

I found out recently that my mom's friend's daughter passed away two months ago from breast cancer. She was in her early 40s. My mom kept it a secret and even had her friend lie to us (my husband and I) that she is doing better. I couldn't believe the length my mom would go to to "protect" me and keep me from worrying, to the point of asking her still-grieving friend to lie. I felt very bad. I have been telling myself all day that I should be grateful to be living in this country and having excellent medical care (my mom's friend's daughter did not) and less worried about my appearance. I feel bad for being vain and whinny right now. I know that I should have the snap out of this and have the surgery. I really don't want to.

Teri, I finally caught up on this current thread and read from the beginning. I am so so sorry about all that Joel had to go through. What a strong person he is (much more than me) and you are also a very strong mom. My thoughts are with you and your son as he recovers from surgery.

Dec12Girl, I'm so sorry that you are so bad right now. I hated the low iodine diet, all I ate was mostly rice cakes for 2 weeks because I was too scared to eat anything else. Please check your PM.

Ella~ oh hun! hug You don't sound stupid or vain. I know how you feel. You would be surprised at how well some scars are hidden though. When I had to have brain surgery and I found out they were going to have to partially shave my head, I was sooo upset. I even went online and looked at pics thinking if I knew exactly what to expect, I could plan better. EEK! big mistake! My dh told me I was over reacting, that I would be alive and that is all that mattered. Roll Eyes (Sarcastic) I mean I know he was right, but it was still an adjustment. Then it turned out that they didn't even have to shave as much hair as I first thought (the pics online were way worse). Also, even though my scar extends beyond my hairline, its hard to tell its there. You have to get really close to see it and its on my forehead and in front of my R ear. Just ask the TCCers that met up in Chicago this year. We were playing with my hair and I bet if I hadn't shown them where the scar was, they wouldn't have known.
The time after the surgery will be an adjustment. I felt I had to hid my scalp and scar with a scarf when I went out in public. Then it got to a point where I didn't care. My head felt better without anything being on it and that was better for me. Some ppl here have even seen pics of me right after the surgery. I thought I looked horrible, head half shaven, frankenstien staples and brised all over, but they helped me and cared no matter what.
We will be here for you and will care no matter what! Hug2 heart Blowkiss

Morning TCCers. I am tired laugh out loud I stayed up way to late, finally went upstairs and NOTHING was out of place. So maybe I do have a ghost in the attic. Hope he's friendly.

Dia, I had had thryoid problems for a long time. Mine is hypothroidism. I've noticed the outer edges of my eyebrows thinning, but the big thing for me is hair loss. when I start loosing hair, it's time for a check up..

Weird thing for me too Dia is that I was loosing weight like crazy BEFORE I was diagnosed. Once I got on the meds, it was harder. Should have been the other way but I don't do anything the normal way either laugh out loud

Ella... hug What you are feeling is completely normal. I hope you can find things to do between now and August to keep your mind occupied. I am Praying for you for a full recovery. You can always come in here to chat with us. We are here for you. Thanks for the sentiments about DS. I'm really not that strong shake head Ask Stormy_Cat, I called her crying like a blubbering fool last week laugh out loud

Off to go get ready for work. I sure hope my ghost is quiet tonight so I can get to bed on time!

I hate when they dismiss things based on the fact that you don't fit "the profile"...

Heck no! People do that all the time and I think it is a great idea, especially for a gift. Even if they didn't register for it, people need another car seat for their DH's vehicle anyway. That is a super cute pack-n-play too!

My dad had thyroid cancer and had to have his removed. When I was 18 the doctor said my thyroid was enlarged. They did an u/s of it and thought they saw something so I did the radiation uptake next. They said it was all clear. All of my tests have been normal but I always worry. How often should it be checked?
At first, it was every 3 months, then 6, then a year and I'm not sure what the plan is after a year b/c I've never "passed" mine yet. You are supposed to go on another schedule once everything levels out but mine never did. Can't have a PET scan while preggy so they wait.

Another hitch in the giddy-up for most people getting tested is that doctors rarely run the right panel of tests. Partially b/c they aren't endocrinologists - they don't know which ones need to be run to rule out (or in) thyroid problems. Also, the tests themselves are flawed - the thresholds for "normal" have a huge range and are based on men, not women so what might make a man feel fine (or another woman) makes you feel like crap. Most doctors though, just read the paper from the lab and say you're fine (when you really aren't).

Google Mary Shomon for some better/more in depth info. I really liked another author, too and will post when I think of it. Very illuminating. Hugs to all w/these and other health concerns - it's a PITA hug

LOL I will PM you - I have a few more questions I would like to ask as I wait for further testing and feel like s walking pile of garbage ...

PS - had trouble with Papa - saying that I had used up my allotment ...

One of the things they told me was that the leading cause of thyroid problems was family history - so I would make sure they do periodic blood work to make sure your thyroid is ok - with your Dad having that I would guess that increases your risk hug hug
Papa tried rejecting me too Sadwalk but really like dh. Wink

Um, BS on the family history. TOTAL bs in fact. Everyone I know with actual thyroid problems and then CANCER had NO family history. It's time for an endocrinologist honey.

I didn't realize from your PM that this was the surgery you were talking about. My sister had the exact same one. I can't remember why they did the surgery though - it wasn't cancer but it was b/c of her thyroid. Something wasn't right and at any rate, it looks gruesome right after it was done but believe me, you can't tell when it is healed. You have to know it's there AND look really really close. She had troubles with the healing but most of the feeling has all returned (it was numb around her ear and jaw for a while).
