we had horrible storms tonight. It was a treacherous drive home from target. I kept thinking that I have been driving 20+years and it was scary, I can't imagine my teens driving in weather like that.. Letting go is so hard. My son will be getting his license in 2 weeks and it scares me so.
I am the worst about letting go of my babies. I have nightmares about it. DD#1 is 11 and just started Jr. High. It hurts. Frown

Quote from meeshecat :
Aww I am so sorry!! I hate to tell you but my water did not break with 7 out of 8 of them until I was already almost ready to deliver... only once did my water break at home. HUGS!!
Shocking Where do you put 'em all? I ask in all seriousness b/c dh told me we had to stop with 4 b/c we're out of bedrooms (the girls double up, son has the other room and baby is in our room). LOL

Quote from ank220 :
Contractions are still coming (I know I said I wouldn't say nuffin, but ya'll keep saying you want to hear... lol), and they are around 8-10 minutes with an occasional 12-14 minute one. Who knows. Maybe middle of the night will be the thing, eh? (then again, maybe there *will* be an announcement of "cleanup in aisle 12" tomorrow at Kroger or Target... laugh out loud )

For me, the weird thing is that with both my other 2, my water broke way before I had contractions. So this one is just very different. But... I guess I should've figured that out by now!!!
Rofl2 I hope not! But, it sounds like you have a history of it so at least you won't have to worry about cleaning up your own floors! LOL

Quote from Nikayla :
My BIL & SIL both have Thanksgiving birthdays one right before and one right after. There is always some kind of birthday celebration for them before Thanksgiving break is over with cake and gifts. They have always said it is kinda nice to have everyone already together to celebrate with them. They are not twins, just almost exactly 2 years apart.

My mom used to sew a lot. She used to have a whole bunch of cloth she got somewhere free and it was all silky she she made us homemade underwear for years. She used to make us dresses and my dad shirts. I was always so Stick Out Tongue about the underwear! At least in gradeschool no one saw but once PE started I would babysit and spend my sitting money on normal unders. She made the granny panty style and I swear they were way above the belly button, and those things lasted forever too.
I'm glad to hear a good story about a Tgiving bday hug It makes me think it won't be so bad especially since it's totally out of my control (which drives me nuts sometimes).

I LOL'd at your undie story - my oldest SS was mortified always that my mom made us matching dresses for family pics (way before Gymboree lol) - she even made them different variations but SS hates those pics to this day. Big Grin

Quote from love2beeamom :
When she finally checked, I was 9 to 10 and ready to push. The doctor was in a csection.. the midwife came in and asked if she could deliver me.. I told her I didn't care if the housekeeper came, I just wanted that kid out
LMAO

Quote from Dazzledby5 :
Those "I'm Pregnant and..." people were only up the highway from me.

Growing up my BFF's bday was 12.24 so I know the angst of having a holiday bday. DS#4 has his Bday 12.23. I refuse to EVER do combo anything!

DS#1 bday falls right aroung Memorial day so for the most part his parties suck because all the kids go on Vcay w/ thier parnets, DS#2 is right around Easter and DD#3 is during Thanxgvg break. I think the only one who has the advantage is DD#5 but we share a bday so I am totally screwed out of my brkfst in bed and day of pampering now Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

When I fell on hard times, I had no idea what to do or where to go. My 1st thought was the Salvation Army for help. Nope! They refused me help...flat out, refused me. They had a shelter but wouldnt take us because we had only just become with out a place to sleep, the had a food pantry but wouldnt give us any food because we didnt have a place to sleep, so and so on.

I still hold a grudge. With everything I find for little to nothing I will not give it to the SA. I donate my used clothing and furnishings the GCF, I found local gift closest to bring all my toys, and I give my food donations to the Food Bank and backpack org and Stamp out hunger and I also make Brown Bag lunches for the panhandlers, that I keep in my car. Currently they have CBA, tuna pouchs, Soy Joy, JJ box Belly Bars, things like that. I cant give $$$ because I feel I can better use the $1 they ask for and if they truly are in need, the bag of food I provided will get them thru the day at least.
WOW - I think LongTimeLurker was just talking about wishing we had an SD'r up by them and that we had a network of couponers that could donate directly to people like them.

Holiday bdays suck - summer bdays are kinda tough, too for kids who want to invite kids from their class b/c we live in a rural area and people live 10-15+ miles away. They just don't come this way for any reason so it's tough.

I will never donate to SA again after reading that story. That's exactly the same kind of idiotic beauracracy that you expect from a federally funded program - not a charity organization.

I love your idea of the brown bag lunches - what an awesome way to use up those things (esp. the ones that no one really wants like soy joy-at least at my house lol). If I lived near a city I would totally steal your idea!

That's the sad thing, I dont even live in a 'city' . We are 50 miles outside of Raleigh NC, and even we have homeless, and pan handler in our tiny country town - well mostly the neighboring town but still. It sucks for them!

My birthday's on the 25th of November. I'm single, so I love having the family around to help celebrate, as I'm not gonna buy a cake for myself or bake a cake just for myself.

I think it's special, as normal adult birthdays aren't really 'celebrated', but mine can be. With that said, I haven't felt like celebrating for several years, as my Dad died the day before I turned 40. It's now always a remembrance of what I lost.

I wonder if they migrate towards your end of the world b/c you're so close to Raleigh? I'm 173 miles from anywhere so I suspect that's why I've only seen homeless when I lived in Chicago. I know they must exist around here but they don't panhandle. They do hitchhike however and don't tell my dh but I always pick them up. I took the last one to McDonald's before I dropped him off, but that was years ago. They are always just passing through and up on the highway not down here where I usually travel.

Is water expensive in some areas? My water bill is barely $20 a month for my family of 7 plus dog.

Our water bill was $80 last month, but is normally around $55. We have 7 people and 2 dogs, the only reason it was $80 was from the heat wave we've had, the kids had the Big Inflatable water slide going for most of the month.

I just re-watched the Mother's Day episode of The Middle (ABC, Wed Nights) last night. I love it, because even if my kids don't give me breakfast in bed, the show is very true. If you haven't seen it, you should watch it, it's probably online at hulu or abc.com nod

I heart the brown bag lunch idea! I am so going to do that. I wish I could get my DH to do that, since he runs into panhandlers every time he has to drive to downtown ATL, but he is an only child, and very much has the only child syndrome. Everything (well, not everything, but most things) are about him, and how it helps him. Drives me crazy, because I am the complete opposite.

I'm sorry to hear that you had to go thru that. My MIL and Step Daughter are the same way as his daughter, except they don't work, that takes too much effort that isn't about them.

On a different note, you are one of the reasons I consciously try to put GA behind Athens, when I am talking about it. My DH is from LA (lower AL), but was living in Athens/Madison, AL area for 6 years when I met him. It keeps me conscious that there is another Athens (besides GA and Greece), and people may get confused. Not you, but as we have seen recently in the Deals thread, there are quite a few people who don't or can't read. Wink

Ank, ride that pony and get little Mavis here. My first thought when I woke up this morning was, "I need to check TCC, see if Mavis is here yet!" laugh out loud

Our water bill (water and sewer actually) is billed quarterly and for the two of us is $75. Or $25 a month. We don't wash our cars at home or water our lawn.

My water bill when I lived in a suburb of Nashville last year was three times that amount.

I forgot that, we don't wash our cars at home or water our lawn either, that's just normal drinking, cooking, and bathing.

Gosh, I feel sorry for y'all with those out freaking rageous water bills. Not that anyone would actually pay for our craptastic water (it's rusty well water that is contaminated with nitrates lol) but still - I'd be screwed if we had a water bill on top of garbage and electricity and gas that we already pay.

My parents had well water until recently. You still "pay" for water via the increased electric bill to run the well pump. My mom says it pretty much evens out.

Almost forgot. Has anyone tried the Ziploc flexible storage boxes? They box says they expand up to 12 inches tall. Could I squish them under a bed? Our bedframe is apparently shorter then most (in distance off the floor) and I'm having a hard time finding an underbed box less than 6 inches tall. I'm hesitant to buy the bed risers because the matsress and box spring are rather thick and the "bed top" is fairly high already. But I really NEED that space because we only have three tiny closets. I need to find a space for out of season comforters and blankets or I have to have the same bedding year round.

Getting ready for an end of season garage sale.
So much stuff, and money is really tight around here.
How do you guys price (new) toys? I have everything from LPS sets to Hot Wheels to Playskool Infant Toys from Kmart. Confused

Our water bill runs about 80-ish every two months for only dh and I and our 2-yr-old. And we are really conscious of our water usage, BUT that is water/trash/sewer combined too.

I was wondering about toy pricing too.. I am thinking probably 50% off like my other items I sell.. but I may wait until closer to the holidays. I am thinking toys may sell well in November. I want to do a sale in a week or so and get rid of some school supplies, snacks, and cereal.

And as far as the water bill goes.. I have complained about ours so much. I think water has gone up the last few years here. We used to pay 25-30 per month for water and sewage.. Now, at our current house we pay around 50.00 a month and it is just water, no sewage. Of course, there is 6 of us!

Thank you so much for the link in your siggy. I couldn't remember who I had gotten the link from a couple weeks ago. My husband made a dresser from the site and it is great and a super slick deal! Thank you! Smilie
