I know there's couple other Midwesterner's w/Hy-Vee's in here. Nice in-ad coupon and cat deal on the GM cereal this week (our ad starts on Tues.) A deal at HV for once OMG Not that we need cereal after FiberPlus @ T. Whistling

OK, I need to go pick up my house. I won a free clean from a local house cleaning business Whee Yahoo! They're coming tomorrow, I suppose they need to be able to get to what they're cleaning, right Coverlaugh
That is awesome that you won that! Isn't it funny how we "clean" when someone is coming to clean. I remember when I was pregnant, I had the whole nesting thing going on and wanted everything wiped down from the cabinets to the floors and called a cleaning lady to come in. I spent 2 days getting ready for her??? LMAO

I am so annoyed with my hub and kids I could rip all my hair out.

What happened to appreciating the things that are given to you? Respecting hard work?

They just don't get it.

Sorry... not in a good mood.

awww I'm sorry! That sucks! I saw some at Target last week too. I hope you can find some. I understand the fear of giving her small amounts. That would terrify me.

Have any of you read the Love & Logic book on parenting? I bought it but I am already bored and only on page 3. Worth reading?

I actually went to a conference on Love and Logic. The presenter was the author of the book. He has some good ideas....easier for me to use with my students than my own kids lol.

I read all the descriptions on the parents and I seem to have a little of it all. Control freak mom that sits back in the dark until the claws have to come out.

Definitely not the helicoptor (hovering) momma.

I don't know if this book is going to help me but I'll at least try. Really, if I could just be consistent 24/7 and get the co-signer of the marriage contract to follow me with it, I'd probably make great strides.

I have the L&L books. I have the young kids one and I had borrowed the original one from the library. The young kids one is ALWAYS on my night stand next to the bed. Some weeks I read and reread it every night. I try really, really hard to use that philosophy with my kids. It's SO hard sometimes to not yell at DS for something stupid and to let him just fall on his a$$ and learn the hard way. I will say though, that it does get easier the longer you work at it. DH sometimes looks at me like I'm batty when I say or do something but if he sticks around and watches long enough he understands totally. dd - How old are your kids?

Also seemed that often the ones that cried the most often when dropped off were just as likely to cry when it was time to leave. More like they just weren't comfortable with change than the actual absence of their parent.
I think (and hope) that you're right - my son is starting PreK in Oct and I'm already wringing my hands in dread. LOL

Target.com has the Banzai Wave Breaker water park 65% off. 192.48 instead of 549.99
This is so so tempting. I was gonna stalk one in-store but there is only like one or two left anywhere and this is the kind of thing that employees usually nab as soon as mark-downs are done. Wish I still had Target gc's built up. Frown

Holy cow - I'm heading to the thread to read-up! Don't need cereal LMAO but if it's free or a MM, count me in!

My son is six, daughter 4, daughter 2, daughter almost 1.

My son (tanner) has Selective Mutism. In other words, he has such severe anxiety that he can't talk in most social situations. Even having immediate family around can cause issues, and he doesn't talk to them. He's been around my mom his entire life and still has a hard time talking to her. He also has been dx with ADHD Combined Type. (hyperactivity and impulsiveness) He was medicated for a short while but we had some problems with insurance and he stopped taking it. Since going to school the Focalin hasn't really been needed. Because the anxiety is so severe, it counteracts the ADHD in school. He's the best kid in the entire district! But we pay the price at home. He's aggressive, loud, often violent, and rarely needs sleep. Everyone always offers me advice but they don't understand what it's like to be the mother of the child that shows no remorse, responsibility, or accountability.

For the past 2 years I've looked for ways to work with him. It's been a search that has always ended with me feeling more lost than when I began looking.

*sigh*

and there's the story of my life. Eat your heart out Dr. Phil.

wow, so sorry to hear this DD. Is he in counseling? Is the family in counseling? Are they SURE they have the right diagnosis? I haven't walked in your shoes so I don't know what you deal with, but I have walked in my own shoes and it was terribly difficult raising DS. It put all kinds of strain on the family unit. Wish I had some words of wisdom for you, but I do have a hug

The original dx for him was Asperger's and the ADHD-CT. The latter has always fit him but the first not so much. It took a couple of years and a LOT of research on my part (and friend's help) to figure out exactly what was going on. You know how it is as a mother though. You know when something just isn't right and you don't rest until you find out what's wrong.

The problem is, there aren't many doctors, counselors, or specialists of any kind that are all too familiar with SM. We were VERY lucky with this school in that the diagnostician actually has a very close friend whose daughter also has SM. If it wasn't for her, and my own knowledge, he'd have a very difficult educational road ahead of him.

Even at a young age I knew that something just wasn't right. Tanner never slept through the night. And, by that I mean, he would either stay up ALL night or he'd get up a bazillion times a night. The pedi kept saying he'd outgrow it. Everytime I brought it up he'd find a reason. By the time he was 2 and still up all night I knew that wasn't normal. Actually, it took having my 2nd baby to finally see what was normal and what wasn't. He has always had a speech impairment and no amount of speech therapy has really helped. Maturity and repetition is what has helped.

He's very unique. I love him more than my own life. I would do anything for him. I just get so exhausted with his antics and such that I have to blow off steam somewhere.

I feel bad about writing all of this out (and worry about judgement) so please let me know if this isn't the place for it and I'll delete it. Smilie
