Teacher supplies-You guys all know I'm a teacher, so I'm biased. Let me just say this: when you hear about teachers spending money out of their own pockets for classroom supplies, it's not pocket change they're spending--it's easily in the hundreds. That is all.

I didn't realize last night's drama was about posting links to coupons. I foolishly thought the hammer was falling on the beggars. Silly me.
Snip-

I guess I don't know where I stand on the teacher issue, I just know here the public schools don't provide much and teachers are in short supply so I send what I can with dd for her teacher/ class etc.

I thought it was closed do to the combination or bitching And begging, but maybe I'm wrong?

Twatwaffles! Again great word and funny to imagine what one would look like.look around

The book sounds interesting been awhile since I've read a good book.

And I want some FRIGGIN'TOWELS!!!

I don't really blame the teachers....I think if I was a teacher and I was paying that much OOP on stuff I would not want to have to do it. But asking the parents to foot that bill more and more and more isn't exactly fair either....since they're usually paying a registration fee and money for supplies and sometimes textbook fees and other misc. fees. So much for free education LMAO Personally I think *before* the schools increase my property taxes they should have to have a balanced budget to begin with. That way I know they are being responsible with my hard-earned money.

In balancing a family budget I've learned that if the money isn't there, we don't spend it. We don't create more debt. We don't ask someone else to pay the bills for us. You start cutting out the least important stuffWink We just recently went through this whole thing here....all the debates within the community, etc. like I know a lot of ppl have probably had. But it just kills me when I hear, 'How dare you cut (insert random extracurricular activity) that?!? It's important!!!' Weeeellllll, common sense tells me that yes, it is important, but no, it isn't an absolute necessity and there are more important things to need to spend money on when we only have 'x' amount of dollars. And then next thing I know nothing is cut and my prop. taxes go up. The end. laugh out loud

I am just bitter today about everything going upTeehee Found out electricity (which is on the budget plan so it doesn't fluctuate each month) is going up $43/month Annoyed And what KILLS me is that our kWh usage is LOWER than what it was this month last year Scratchchin Our electric provider just sees fit to raise their rates constantly.

What an adorable bee!

So DS ended up with some chipped paint, very bruised feelings, a $210 ticket and 2 points off his license. He is such a tender heart, was crying when we got home. The gal that called the cops? No damage, actually told the officer that her car must be made of steel, this was her third accident, and still no damage! Twatwaffle.

Well...

twatwaffle...

that is a permanent fixture in our vocab and minds now, isn't it??

Rachel - thanks for the well wishes for my, ahem... well, ya know... laugh out loud

I gave Mavis a nice bath, suctioned her nose out, nursed her as long as she'd stay awake, and now she's sleeping peacefully. And... instead of me doing the same thing - I'm here... trying to get brave enough to buy a towel tomorrow.

DH gets paid tomorrow and I get my grocery budget. Yay! Trying to think of what q's to get and what to plan on buying this week - and keep it all under/at around $50 oop for the week. Towels would help. nod

Now I have to really do some deal reading. *laugh* Time to plan... time to plan big...

Thanks!
I agree with you. In a perfect world, every child in the country would get a comprehensive, well-rounded education, at no cost to the family. But that's just not reality. And at some point, parents have to take responsibility for their children and the goals and dreams they have for them. Not that I think we should take arts/music/sports out of schools, but if the actual educators themselves are being forced to take paycuts, forego pay raises, what-have-you, then someone needs to take a good hard look at the budget and be ruthless, regardless of political correctness and public opinion. But that's just me. Big Grin

On a different topic - why won't my house just clean itself??? Seems like the majority of my time is spent picking up books, crayons, stuffed animals, shoes, socks, balls, cars, etc., that my kids leave in their wake, and then I just don't have the energy or motivation to tackle the "big stuff", like dusting, vacuuming, scrubbing, etc. I'm too embarrassed to have anyone over unless they're family, because my house is just that messy. ugh...

How happy I am that I learned the night of the mpp smackdown that, even though I'm at work and can't OPEN a google document, I sure can email it to myself. Worked today too. Thanks Jaime (indirectly).
