Ya know, speaking of substituting dessert with fruit, I think I could substitute a honey crisp apple for dessert any day. Now if they weren't do darn expensive. Still worth the $$ when you are dieting though. Just one apple with the produce q runs like .25-.30. They're around $2.50-$2.99/lb. here depending on the store Frown

Man it is cold and rainy here today. I have my windows open and it is like 65-68 in here. I decided I would wear a t-shirt around the house today instead of a sweatshirt. That way when I am sitting I will get way too cold and have to get up and keep moving around. Otherwise I'll just wanna sit around under a blanket all day! And right now I have the darn cat in my lap keeping me warm, so that isn't totally working Teehee

Too bad my apple tree died - or so I heard, I haven't been back to look. I could have sent you on a one hour drive to pick all the apples you wanted. We have a house on that side of the state too. I think that 90 mph wind storm last spring got it. They were good apples too.

Have you checked Aldi? There's one in your town, isn't there?

55 degrees here and raining off and on. My air is still on. Every time it's cool and I contemplate opening windows, I check for forecast and it's gonna be 60 one day and 75 the next. Open, close, open close. Too much bother.

Confused man, I must be missing out on something good at K! I haven't even popped in that thread in ions.

Got a as in my freebie paper this morning for ST with a peelie coupon that says
FREE 8 oz. Archer Farms chips with grocery purchase of $25 or more.

Did a run today and all went well. I had to remember to follow 27 rules to make sure it went smooth. What a PITA! laugh out loud

it's apple and pumpkin picking season. i picked 10lbs of honey crisps at 1.25/lb i think a wk and a half ago. if i picked 20lbs or more would have been a dollar a lb.

if you don't have pick-your-own by you, are there farmers mkts? sometimes cheaper there and definitely fresher. they pick that morning or day b4. just came back from amish farmers mkt. got green beans, mushrooms, onions, zucchini and plums. plums were on the expensive side, 3.99/box but dh was there and he'd rather eat other stuff than apples, though he'll eat them if i put it in front of him until he rebels. while i was buying them, he goes, they're kind of expensive, aren't they? i said yeah, they are 3.00 a basket at the other farmers mkt but it won't be till next saturday and we are here now. you try to make them happy and they still are not.

bought luncheon meat so he would eat the multigrain bread. wouldn't pick what kind but didn't wasn't enthusiastic when i suggested the dry beef b/c he didn't want to get stuck w/ it if he didn't like it. sigh! the only way to know if you like it or not is to try it. it's sold by the pound so just by enough to try. so childlike! then after we ordered it, a guy standing next to us said it was good and should just try it. why are men so difficult???

ok, off to target to return something i bought for bff. she gave it back to me a couple days ago and the receipt expires today OMG! talk about cutting it close!

You have two houses OMG And two in Iowa OMG LOL GT, sell that one and buy one somewhere warm! LMAO We have had some bad storms this year as far as wind and hail goes. We got golf-ball sized hail this past week - had to send dh up yesterday to check the roof for damage.

Haven't checked Aldi, will be over that direction tomorrow and will check then. Roberts milk has been $2.90 at T minus .50 q (I usually buy all my milk at Aldi) so since I've already been there a bunch I've just been picking it up @ T rather than making an extra trip over to Aldi. But now that ya say that I recall them having honeycrisps pretty reasonably priced last year so I will have to check it out!

Unfortunately the pick-your-owns around here aren't less Frown They are probably better quality so we've thought about going anyway just to check it out. The farmer's markets -- most of which close mid-september anyway -- are waaaay high-priced around here too.

ETA, we grew our own pumpkins this year....just picked 'em last week, here is a pic of dd with them.....

Ummm, actually up until a couple weeks ago it was three. We didn't do it on purpose....

The one on that side of the state is where we were living when DH went to work for the railroad. Within 6 months, promotion, had to move across the state. We didn't want to sell the house (a) in case things didn't work out and (b) it was our intention to retire back there. So, we rented it. This was 13 years ago mind you.

Obviously, the job worked out and now we have absolutely no intention of ever living back there. Yeah, we could sell it, but it would be a pain in the ass to do that plus we have had the same renter from day one. I'm not gonna up and make her move. If she ever decides to leave, we will probably go back, clean it up and sell it. In the meantime, it's been paid for for years and has caused us very little trouble. I think I have had 4 or 5 calls in all these years and they were easily remedied problems. We have been blessed.

Then a year and half ago hubby and I went to this house auction. We thought if it went cheap enough we would buy it to rent and we could use the garage. (Cause, you know the 4 car + 1 car at my house and the 2.5 car + 1 car at the other house aren't enough.Cool) Anyway, it didn't, we didn't. But we were riding around our little tiny town and there was this cute little house.... new roof, siding, huge lot, empty...

The price was ridiculously cheap but it needed work, so we bought it. We didn't get it done as fast as we wanted. Hubby was in a bad accident almost 2 years ago and it has slowed him down and I have had some problems. Anyway, we didn't finish, but we did sell it last month and still made a profit. Not as much as if we had finished it, but it was more than the money would have drawn in the back.

Would you believe we have actually considered looking for a place further north??? Crazy isn't it! I have always hated Iowa and wanted somewhere warmer. Well, we are both getting where we don't really like the heat. (Which doesn't mean we like winter either!) But we do like fishing some of those Minnesota lakes...... We are 47, so he isn't retiring very soon, but we want to eventually get something bought and ready.

I shopped at the Muscatine Aldi years ago and back then they had better produce than HyVee and it was a whole lot cheaper. Nearest Aldi to me is over an hour -- just like everything else. And I always forget to stop there when I am shopping. Apparently, Target just makes all other stores fly outta my head.

Milk is one of those things that I pay way too much for. I won't by milk in plastic cartons. Absolutely, unequivocally will not. Up here nobody has it in half gallon cartons so it's quarts only.
