It's essentially the same as saying, "the key to making a cake is by cooking ingredients." (by = through, cooking and ingredients being the factors involved).
You may or may not know how to cook. You may or may not have ingredients. However, possessing the ability to cook, possessing ingredients, and actually cooking those ingredients, is how you make a cake.
Another subtle part of the philosophy is that, much like a key, you must apply it. One could possess all of the knowledge in the world, and may have processed it through all of the wisdom in the world. However, if you do not apply this ultimate enlightenment, the door to life is just as closed as an actual door would be w/the key to open it sitting on a counter.

I think the whole misunderstanding came from where I dropped my philosophy. It was in a response to your idea of wisdom being to realize that we're all stupid. I wasn't saying my philosophy was an *answer* to that, or saying it corrected that sentiment at all.... I was just sharing it in general

His b-day was last Saturday and he told his aunt that he didn't like her present.
