well, that's the appeal of Dells. They have cheapo budget, through mid level, to top of the line. You can't just focus on the cheapo plastic crap to indict all Dells. Nobody makes cheaper Desktops/Laptops than Dell. Dell also makes some of the best and most expensive. Have you seen the Studios? Those are pretty nice too. Light up keyboard, LED, optional standalone GC. What I like most about PC's (and especially Dell) is that you can order it however YOU want it, not how Steve Jobs thinks you should have it.

Also, I'm on a 14" HP now. Even better than Dell.

What do you mean? Why can't I customize my Mac? What options can you add to your Dell that I couldn't add to mine when I bought it?

what can you customize on a mac? last time I checked the macstore, you basically had 3 choices of processors and that was it. Also, don't you void the warranty if you take out your HD? You can't replace wifi, graphics, or any other cards in a Mac lappy.

On my 8600, I replaced the monitor to get better resolution, the wifi from a/b to g, tried out 2 different graphics cards (only to find out it made no difference). I mean, I took the body apart so many times, but never worried about violating warranty, never had problems putting it back together. Dells are 1980's Ford Mustangs. You can upgrade everything with no problems.

Yeah, you can either go with the Intel C2D, i5 or i7. Why would you want to arbitrarily replace a wifi card in your computer? I guess if you wanted to, you could... As for the GPU, you're not gonna find that you can replace them on many of the newer laptops. You can definitely replace the screen, if you don't care about breaking the water barrier around it.

One of the big things with Macs is that they work so well because their hardware is so controlled. There's only a few different configurations, so the OS doesn't have to be as bloated, because it doesn't have to deal with drivers from an almost infinite number of possibilities. Windows is one-size-fits-all. OS X is not. I guess if you wanna dick around with your computer enough, a Mac isn't for you... But then again, why buy a laptop? Desktops are infinitely more upgradeable than laptops. (And I'll agree that PowerMacs are overpriced as all fark).
