Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

I found a manual that shows how to take my laptop apart. It's just 3 screws in the bottom then turn over and 2 snaps on front. Looks easy enough, but I'm no mechanic of any kind. LOL computer mechanic.Computerpunch
Sounds about right for newer laptops. The hardest part is finding screwdrivers small enough (you generally need a jewelers set, Sears sells a really nice set with Torx and other bits, each a separate driver, rather than one handle and bits). The the next hardest part is often getting the ribbon cable from the keyboard out of the clamp fitting without breaking the fitting (many use a clamp fitting on a flat ribbon, though some use a plug on the end of the ribbon cable).

Take your time, though, and use deionized or distilled water for the cleaning, and warm it with a hair dryer for long enough to dry it out, and you'll be fine.

DAMN snowstorm and then 40 deg weather!!!

Basement was flooding and didn't notice the window well was a foot and a half deep of water,. . .no wonder I was getting 5 to 10 gallons out of the basement ever 20 min. .. got it to stop once I sucked up the 30+ gallons in the well outside. YUCK

oh and of course we have a "Finished" basement with nice carpet. . .well not so nice anymore
Ouch. If that well doesn't have a french drain tied into the house drain, consider having one installed (you have to dig down to the house drain and T into it). Or if you can find a clear dome for the well, consider that to keep the water out.

If it has the clamp fitting, the key is to pry each tab just a little, alternating, OR use 2 screwdrivers and lift them evenly. The clamp only comes up 1/16-1/8", so just lift a little, and the ribbon will lift right out. Putting it back can be tricky, as you have to hold the ribbon seated all the way into the clamp fitting while you push the tabs down. But it's not really that hard.

It is a job to do when fresh and awake (which for me is often 3am), but it really isn't hard, just don't rush it.

Has anyone here ever taken a laptop apart? I really need to cause my keys get worse after it sets overnite. Then when I use it, it's not quiet as bad. I want to but afraid I might mess it up. Pray
More intimidating than anything, Before I start taking mine apart I google what I am doing , read more than a couple also a lot of good videos out there. Good Luck, it really is not rocket science.
