So I've been here and there trying to pop in and say howdy Wave I hope everyone is good.

Oh and I found out black friday is going to be a very horrible day Crying there making me work, vomit I may need to call in Sick
Oh, I would just cry!

Just had the most random thing happen. I was getting the girls out of the van and into the house after dropping my son off, and this woman is walking by my house. She comments on how cute my little one, I agree, etc. We chit-chat a little about kids, her mainly complaining about how she can't control her 6yo son. Mind you, her age is indeterminate, she has no teeth, hair is rather unkempt, you get the picture. I have never seen her before in my neighborhood. So I'm about to shoo the girls inside to start our chores, and she tells me that she's on her way to buy minutes for her phone, but her money won't be deposited until next week, and so could I please give her $10? Faint Told her I don't have any spare cash, because I don't - its all promised for something or another, mainly my shopping trips to Target. Big Grin (I think this qualifies me for the meanie title...)

Anyway, I have no problem giving to people - heck, I have handed boxes of Cheerios out my van window to panhandlers, but give someone money to pay for more minutes on their cellphone??? Are you kidding me????

OK, so after all that nonsense, I am now off to get my coffee and start my day...

g'morning meanies!

trying to psych myself up to go to macys one day sale b4 1pm. didn't actually see anything exciting except b2g2 bras but they probably don't have my size so would end up being a wasted trip, and pj's . and now w/ the 10.00/3 sleepwear tq and somebody recommending the 10.00 long sleeve gilligan and omalley sets....maybe i shouldn't even bother.

but i gotta find something for MIL, FIL, grandma-in-law and grandpa-in-law so i should really go take a look and maybe get lucky.

i don't even see my absolute favorite pima cotton turtlenecks that always sell out b4 they can go on clearance. i would think about getting a couple of those...

honestly, since i have a huge bunch of toys from some slickdeal early this yr and from aug toy clearance, i so far haven't seen anything all that exciting so far that makes me wanna get up super early and go to the store. i might actually prefer to wake up later and make money instead of spend money. but it's a bummer anyway Comfort.

so far the only thing we are getting is the norelco razor from cvs for dh and hopefully that shouldn't be a problem b/c there are 4 cvs' in SIL's 2nd home town and i think they are all 24hrs and open thanksgiving. never did black friday at cvs. does anybody know how that works?

was this guy an addict robbing for drug money? a disgruntled former convenience store clerk targeting their stores? psychotic?
Definitely not a disgruntled employee. He is not from the either area and the stores weren't the same chain. I did have an odd thought last night -- I got my paperwork a few weeks ago. I am in the Jan. - Mar. jury pool. This is a very rural area where everybody is related to or knows everybody. I am not from here -- not related to anybody, know very few people.
Quote from getgreen09 :
when a red sees me and says "can i help you with something?"
"oh no i'm good" i say, "thank you for asking"
red: are you sure you don't need help?
me: yeah, don't mind me.
I had to laugh at that. A similar thing happened to me at the grocery store the other day. Except I wasn't running a list through my head but I couldn't very well say, "yes, you can help. Get out of here so I can hunt for peelies in peace".

paprika, sage, rosemary, thyme, marjoram, basil,

I don't like reheated mashed potatoes
I think there is a $1/2 Tones spice in last week's inserts.
You can peel and partially boil the potatoes the day before. Then drain, cover with plastic wrap and refrigerate to finish up the next day if you really have a time crunch. I have also heard or read that you can cook them overnight in the crock pot. Never tried it, don't know how, but you might try searching that.

A word of potato advice for those want to use instant --
Use a GOOD brand not some cheap store brand. My first choice is Potato Buds. Idahoan are good too - the flavors are fabulous. But for plain potatoes I still prefer Potato Buds.

Second -- use ALL milk. The direction will call for a lot of water and a little milk. NO water -- all milk, preferably whole milk. Yes, it makes a big big difference -- whole milk over skim even makes a difference. Some extra butter is always good too.

Third - once your milk is boiling (I use the microwave) and you are ready to dump in the potatoes, dump them, then just smush them down into the milk enough to get covered and spread out a little. Don't mix them -- as in don't take a spoon and stir them around. It makes a difference in the consistency. If you stir them like cake batter they get all smooth and have that wall paper paste runny buffet potatoes consistency.

Maybe it's just me but I don't see how the teeny bag of meat was enough for the recommended 3 fajitas per skillet meal bag.
Oh geez. We had these last night and I guess I didn't read enough. There were 6 tortillas in there so I figured it was intended to make 6. I wasn't impressed with these. I don't like doughy flour shells. Next time I will make them and fry them like I do chimis. I probably won't buy any more of these. The only thing it really sames me from how I usually make them -- is cutting up the raw meat. So we are talking a couple minutes.

We did like the Firecracker Sesame Chicken and I hope I can get more of that. I have a broccoli alfredo we haven't tried. (I won't like it, I don't like alfredo). But that's all my store had -- I got those 2 and 4 fajita. In my little fantasy land, when I go back they will just be opening a couple cases of Firecracker chicken and I can get a dozen of these. It will be good for when hubby is out of town and just me and DD.

Kinda glad our Thanksgiving was in Oct.. but now I want Turkey and stuffing again.. But I can wait until Christmas..
SecretYou can just cook a turkey for dinner even if it's not a holiday. I know this for sure, yep. We have it a few times over the winter -- and I don't even like it, but they do.

Last night I was sitting on the floor being attacked by, err, playing with my dog when the little one all of a sudden scampered out in the kitchen. (We watch her like a hawk since she can't be trusted) Next thing ya, she went out the doggy door all by herself and went potty. Got up the this morning and I usually call her to the door, point and tell her to go out. I just waited and watched her, next thing ya know, out the door she went. If this continues all day today, I will be doing the happy dance.

Oh, one other word of advice about carpet cleaners -- should you have your son's dog and she pees on your floor and you suck it up, then rinse with it. Do not. I repeat DO NOT forget to empty the dirty water tank. Because when you remember to do it -- You. Will. Be. Sorry.

Do you have any idea if the tvs in Wal-Marts BF ad will be available online? I am considering the $200 32" inch Emerson for both of my kids. These are 720p. In a tv that size, do you think that's fine? Neither of them have an lcd or any kind and they aren't gamers and don't have blu-ray.

If we would decide to go to the store -- which way do you think would be better. There is one Wal-Mart in the area that is not a super. It's a pretty small store too. It's in a fairly small town and there isn't anything else there to draw shoppers -- no chains other than Dollar General.

The other 3 directions I have Super Wal-Marts.
West it is the only thing in town, I hate that town and would prefer not to go there but will if I have too.
South has a regular Target and a few other things but no major stores that I can think of.
East has a Super Target, KMart, Shopko, Super Wal-Mart, Best Buy and some other stuff.

So, if we decide to go what do you think? Oh and who has the tutorial on how to train a husband to get in there and fetch?

did anybody see *downsized*? i saw a bit of the first episode and at one point you see the couple discussing how they can't come up w/ the last 300.00 to pay the rent for the month and she's wearing chanel earrings. i don't think they were fake.

Wave morning all!!

Heading out in a bit to get dd's picture taken for Christmas. There was a coupon on coupons.com not long ago for $18 for 6 sheets of the same pose @ Picture People so I figure I can get some pics to stuff in Christmas cards. I don't take many pics of her once it gets cold out. Hopefully she cooperates and we get some good ones in her pretty Christmas dress.

Ugh... realizing my pantry is annoyingly sparse when it comes to staples and such. Gonna have to pray for some good finds and work some magic to pull off thanksgiving this year!

I need potatoes, green beans, broccoli, almonds, pumpkin, sugar, flour, paprika, sage, rosemary, thyme, marjoram, basil, salt pork, rutabagas, sweet potatoes, idaho potatoes, apples maybe, bread, bananas, cream cheese, lemons, onions, sour cream, brown sugar, macadamia nuts, orange juice, whipped cream ???

Okay, this is my menu that I've been thinking of...

Turkey
mashed potatoes and gravy
stuffing
green (shelley) beans w/salt pork
rutabagas w/salt pork
some sweet potato dish - don't know what kind...
apple sauce
broccoli w/almonds and lemon butter
Banana Cheesecake
Pumpkin Cheesecake
Pumpkin Pie
Cranberry sauce (homemade)

then double it...

Yup... well, maybe 1 and 1/2... I am making dinner for us + our friends, and a small dinner for a widower & his daughter that we are friends with. (His daughter will stop by on her way through TN and pick it up on Thanksgiving.) DH found out that they tend to do tv dinners on thanksgiving and was just horrified at the thought.

I am thinking starting early will be my best bet. I could make the cheesecakes ahead of time by 2 days. (of course, that means I'll have to hide it from DH...) Pumpkin pie, cranberry sauce, apple sauce, and probably most of the sides the day before. I don't like reheated mashed potatoes, so I will probably make those the day of. I could do the smaller turkey the day before also - then the bigger one the day of. I'm trying not to feel panicky. *laugh*
Seems like alot of things on that list are produce and I know where you can get a deal on that laugh out loud And with the new register updates, it is possible to get a little overage at target now, so maybe you can work some of the spices into an overage dealWink

We finally tried one of the TGIF meals tonight. I'm glad they were cheap. Embarrassment I cooked 2 bags each of the steak and chicken fajitas for dinner. Maybe it's just me but I don't see how the teeny bag of meat was enough for the recommended 3 fajitas per skillet meal bag. It was literally 3 little strips of meat per tortilla shell and then lots of onions/peppers (which the girls picked out).

The fajitas were tasty though.
I agree. I haven't eaten any.. but my teens have. My 17 yo DS eats an entire meal just for himself. He has eaten both the chicken and steak fajitas and likes them both, but he says there are too many of the veggies, so he leaves some out.

Quote from kallison423 :
If you cut up the meat a little bit while it's cooking, it goes a little further and it seems like there's more meat per fajita. But, yes, I agree that it's not very much! My dad asked how much they were regular price and agreed that he would have been pissed if he paid $5.99 for one!
I can't believe people would actually pay that for them. I have several coupons now, but stock is so low at every store.. Last night I grabbed the last 6 bags, and they were all the same flavor and not the one my kids had requested, but for free, I figured they would alteast eat the meat.. My store only had the chicken with black beans and rice..

This I can help ya with... I know alot of people don't CVS anymore, but it is still my first love cause it is where I got my start with couponing.. and my cashiers at my favorite store are the best.. The CVS sales start on Thanksgiving day.. SO, at a regular store, it is best to be there when they open at 7 or 8 am on Thanksgiving.. But the 24 hour stores will start at midnight.. SO, I go Wednesday night around 11pm and fill my cart with stuff, then hit the register to check out right at 12.. out the door by 12:15. There are usually a few other people in my town trying to get the deals too, but not usually a problem.

yep, the firecracker chicken is my kids favorite too.. But, since I bought the first bags, I can't find it anywhere.. or the fajitas! My stores are wiped clean.. makes me sad cause I have coupons and now I have a new freezer and can't fill itCool

And speaking of turkey, I am hoping to find some marked cheap after Thanksgiving and put a couple in the freezer for later in the year.

I think we'll be okay for thanksgiving... just need to do some planning and creative shopping. My main problem is lack of vehicle. DH dropped off his car when we picked up the van and we still don't have it back. Mechanic had said he was having issues starting it and that all the brakes were bad. Still haven't heard what the final report is - I guess they've been pretty busy. I'm trying to make some plans so I don't feel all crazy and stressed at the last minute.

Oh yeah, it would probably help that when I *do* go to target I actually take my purse with me...

Yep.. That may help.. You also need to take you DD and DH so they can all get a few produce itemsWink

I personally love the newest update.. So nice to use coupons, nothing beeps, doesn't matter if coupon value is greater than product.. Now, if they could just bring back my size 16's, all could be great Smilie

Had a pretty good run last night.. Tried a new cashier.. he ended up being a nice scanning jedi..
Made a few observations after my trip..
that tgi tq is really dumb
halls tq beeps on anything other than plain ole halls.. beeps on sugar free, vit c drops, and the breezers
newest produce coupon is much better.. didn't beep on the bagged veggies like celery anymore.. used to be a beeper for me
deli tq still works great on the organic string cheese and the newest tq doesn't have the "items over 1.00" stipulation

Found one of the lego GC while shopping last night.. Had to get it, even though I don't know why laugh out loud Just cause it was a hard to find item I guess..

thanks so much! this is gonna change my plans big time. the plans right now are to go pick up the in-laws and then the grandparents and then drive 1.5 hrs to sil's second home so we wouldn't get there till early afternoon on thursday. i was thinking to send dh out to cvs while we were cooking dinner thurs or early on friday but that might be way too late.

hmmm, one of our cvs' just turned 24 hrs b/c the pathmark up the road closed. maybe need to be there 11pm wed nite. hopefully other people won't have caught on since it just happened in the last couple months.

i have the 13.00 oral-b ecb i have to use that wknd unless i can find another one this wk to roll the ecb. but i hardly ever cvs anymore and dh does need a new razor so i'd just rather get the razor than be stuck w/ a 13.00 ecb.

setsail or anyone - Thinking about purchasing a 17" laptop before mine dies. I have an HP dv8000. It shuts off a lot on its own. Maybe overheating. I want a new one before this one does die.

Does your DH have a recommendation? When he gets a chance can you ask him to look at HP Biscotti 17.3" [walmart.com].

Also looking at this [samsclub.com] one at Sams Club. Is it worth the price difference?

Would like something with good battery life for when the power is off. Seems it is off a lot for this block I am on. Of course, want something fast and reliable. Must have 17" and numerical keypad.

feeling too lazy to multiquote, so follow along fine people, follow along... here goes:

ank, yes the maalox beeps. beeped for me yesterday.

ank and kallison... on Tgiving supplies, do you guys have Rite Aid and Walgreens near you? kalli, what grocery stores do you have near you? PM me, i can help you figure out deals to stretch those $10... there are some big grocery deals going on nationally right now for tgiving stuff.

also, both of you, pillsbury has a national cat deal right now, on all refrigerated baking goods (crescents, biscuits, breads, cookies, cinn rolls etc), buy 4 get $1, 5 get 2, 6 get $3... there are great pillsbury qs out. grocery store in our neck of the woods also is having a HUGE get 10 items, instant savings GM deal... Betty crocker potatoes, progresso broth, pillsbury stuff, bunch of other things, all turn out free or near free with qs. i'm sure GM is running similar deals elsewhere nationwide.

L2B... not sure what update your store got, but boy do i want it! almost every mq beeped for me yesterday and required k1'ng with a message that said "check if item is in order and accept anyway?"
got cashier all flustered. frustrating cos i had the right items for each thing.. and get this, for all the times they pull that item is not in picture nonsense, this time all the items i got were in the picture on the q. nope, still a hassle. sigh.

ank, on spices... need mqs?
i have the mccormick tp 1/2 that just expired on monday... there are spice island 1/1s from a store flier. generous sders raok'd them to me. i could certainly send a few off to you. they expire 12/31/10
spice islands also had mqs in this past weekend's inserts.

flug, that woman sounds scary, and more than a strange encounter. it sounds like a scam, or someone scoping out a neighborhood for robberies etc. the way she finagled you into a conversation and then abruptly changed the topic - creepy. i'd keep the house well-locked, kids away inside and if you see her around in the neighborhood again, call the cops. never know what people are up to these days.

gt, yeah, i wanted to say something similar - not because i was looking for peelies, but because she completely messed up my concentration and because while running through my shopping list on one side of my brain, i was doing mental math calculating overages and padding simultaneously on the other end of the brain, while also trying to make sure i don't hit some senior citizens with my cart, and make room for an elderly couple to maneuver their cart out of a medicine aisle. there was no brain space left to play nice with a red, who, may i say already had a cart full and plenty to do. thank you very much.

bronc how are you feeling? praying for you!
dreeme, ditto... keep us updated when you get to it!

and on that irate note, hope all of you are having a good day! got to run. lots to do! more later!

Okay, this is my menu that I've been thinking of...

Sounds like a great menu! Luckily, I won't have to cook at all this Thanksgiving, except for 2 apple pies. We are driving to Pittsburgh for the holidays for a surprise 80th birthday party on Friday. We are staying at DH's aunts house and she called and wanted to know if DH would come down early and cook the whole Thanksgiving meal! OMG I mean, he is a great chef but this always happens to him...wherever we go, his family (and mine) always expect him to prepare the food. After the 75 hours per week he works, the last thing he wants to do is cook. So instead of saying no, he told her he would've loved to but that we wouldn't be able to leave MI until Thursday late morning Teehee

Big Grin (I think this qualifies me for the meanie title...
OMG Kind of reminds me of a story...my sister and I were in Toronto last month and went out to this amazing restaurant but had a lot left over, so we packed it up with the intentions of giving it to someone. This guy approached my sister by the subway and asked her for some money to buy "juice." She said that she didn't have any money but she had a lot of food left over and did he want it. He asked her what it was and she said, lobster, shrimp and rice and vegetables. He was like , "Yeah, i guess I will take it. Now do you have any money so I can get something to drink with it?" She pulled a bottled water out of her bag and offered it to him. He sighed and took it and then threw everything away after we walked across the street. Annoyed

I agree. I haven't eaten any.. but my teens have. My 17 yo DS eats an entire meal just for himself. He has eaten both the chicken and steak fajitas and likes them both, but he says there are too many of the veggies, so he leaves some out.I can't believe people would actually pay that for them. I have several coupons now, but stock is so low at every store.. Last night I grabbed the last 6 bags, and they were all the same flavor and not the one my kids had requested, but for free, I figured they would alteast eat the meat.. My store only had the chicken with black beans and rice..
I would love to try the black bean one. Our stores only have the fajita kits and they are good (I think someone said they felt like they were actually cooking it Big Grin) and I felt the same way...they take up too much room in my freezer though.

Are you all curel-ed out? All of my stores are teeming with the $3.79 lotions so I am just continuing to buy them all...seems like people have moved on to another deal.

We are having our very last stockpile sale in MI on Friday. I placed an ad in 3 local papers, craigslist and hired a girl in my neighborhood to deliver flyers door to door. I better get a huge turnout. It's supposed to be cold (High of 50) but sunny so I hope people are discouraged by the cold weather. DH says that at the end of the sale we should offer ridiculous prices...just to get rid of everything...especially all my mr clean and garbage bags...the heavy stuff, so we dont have to move it. Thoughts?
