Dia: we are just barely decorated around here. I have a few santas and stockings up and a 2 ft tree on my front table. I am thinking of putting up my big tree but it would be for a very short time and I can't even count how many times my little guy will try to climb it.

We are planning on spending Christmas at my mom's house. Last year was a very hard christmas for her (my dad & her split up 3 years ago and we live in a town where his entire family lives and NONE of her family lives) we always spent christmas with my dad's side and she was included in all of the festivities and took part in them but it was too sad for her...she really downward spiraled. So on New Year's Day, she booked a week-long trip over christmas this year to san francisco (practically the farthest place from us in the US) that she is going on. I know she is regretting it now since we will be in town. We will stay at her house and decorate it...hopefully she'll feel up to celebrating a late christmas when she gets back. Long story short, I think I will wait until we get down there to decorate.

hey you guys... in case some of you need towels bounce and not from T, there is an awesome deal on ralph lauren towels at Horchow. horchow is the home goods catalog division of nieman marcus.

flug... i know you feel that you couldn't do it professionally, BUT just want to put this bug in your ear:
remember that thing we were all talking about a few days ago about coincidences and a greater spirit looking after us and how things come our way... Big Grin

just sayin', girlie... chuck e cheese birthdays and you. you could have a thing going there. honestly. mutual word of mouth advertisements. mutual discounts. you just never know.

there is a company in maine that makes these most amazing whoopie pies (they're not pies at all for you southerners. it's a new england thing: two chocolate cake disks with a marshmallow creme in between them, as a big gooey delectable sandwich). well you get whoopie pies all over new england in convenience stores and gas stations wrapped in saran wrap. they're usually super sweet, and the cake is dry and greasy at the same time. ick.
not these ones. it all started with one woman, who had left her job to become a stay at home mom. she used to make whoopie pies at home, and family always said oooh you should make these professionally. and she always laughed them off saying huh, they're just my homemade imperfect things. well they were down to just her DH's salary, when her young son asked for a bike. so using her working toaster oven (!!!) she made 3 shell tops at a time. then 3 shell bottoms. and that way she'd put together a dozen or so whoopies in a basket and sell to the neighborhood stores. she was only looking to buy a bike to ride with her son, but instead the whoopie pies took off. now she has a multimillion dollar company, 2 stores, a nationwide shipping business. her whoopie pies have been on oprah's favorite things, on ellen's show, on food network, on tv shows around the region, and picked up by the bellagio in vegas for their turndown service for valentine's day.
... she still cooks and works in the factory kitchen. as do her kids and her husband and her brother. the whoopie pies are to.die.for.
so don't knock your cinderalla, girlie. you just never know what she has in store for you. Big Grin
You are absolutely right. Judging by the looks of envy of all the kids laugh out loud I know it would be a pretty successful business. My sister is also convinced it would be lucrative. I think its something I will table until after the holidays, and then revisit to see if I think it would work. The thing for me is do I want to pour so much time and effort into something that I'm not sure I would LOVE doing if its not for my own family? But then the flip side of that is it WOULD be for my family in a roundabout way, because it would ease financial burdens. Definitely lots to think about, and thanks for always being that encouraging voice. hug

I am hearting the Hallmark $10 q. So much good stuff there, and there's different stuff at each stores. My dd had played with these [amazon.com] elsewhere and I've been wanting to get some for her since she likes them so much. There were two different sets for $12.95/ea. at one of the Hallmark stores, so $2.95 after $10 q for a really good toy. Amazon had a good sale on a couple of the sets Friday too so I bought a couple of those as well and MIL is buying them all from me to give dd for Christmas woot Been giving my dh the occasional q to use too Teehee

I have no real desire to shop or spend money....at Target or elsewhere....besides finishing up the small amt. of Christmas shopping I have left. Dontknow Will have to go out in the next couple of days because we'll need milk. I have a love-hate relationship with all the crowds this month. I do want to get plenty of Philly cream cheese @ T. this week. Guess I'm gonna have to go out for that laugh out loud
I must get to Hallmark!! I have probably 6-7 of the $5 coupons from the various magazines, but haven't made it to a store to use a one of them! Has anyone had success doing multiple transactions at Hallmark, using the different coupons? There's not a store that's convenient to anywhere that I go, so I'm going out of my way. I would like to make it as worth it as possible.

Would you mind sending it to me, as well? I had it at one point, but not any longer. Thanks!

Off to get my first cup of coffee, and then start attacking this house!! Mess City!!

Good morning! Even though I have been able to get online and read up off and on this week, I feel so out of the loop! Gotta really get caught back up when I get home, see what the new coupons are, etc. Would you believe, I am sitting just a few blocks from a Walgreens and I haven't even looked at the ad? Shameful.

We brought the chihuahua back to return to our son. He is sending her back home with us -- to the fenced yard and doggy door. I guess he finally does realize that she is so much better off with us than in his apartment. So, once again -- to all of you who sent me so many Beneful coupons -- THANK YOU!

Have a great day everybody!

So, Hallmark coupon is missing from my computer. They must be cleaning it up, as my last day here is Friday. Then on to bigger and better things! If the link is floating around out there, can I get on the list? Looking for a clipper that has the Similac coupons, not having any luck. I get 2 Sunday papers, and only one had them, so must be a hard to find one.

Horrible kink in my back that has moved to my neck. Heat helps, but is almost impossible to do while sitting at a desk at work! Wish I could just hop down to the ER and get an IV of something and pull it back with me!

crock-pot help

I upgraded my crock-pot and have used it twice and heart the "warm" setting, as my old one was very basic. Last night when I was putting it away, I noticed it has some whitish discoloring/film/something-going-on. There's some in the "corners" and then there's almost like a ring mark about half-way up. It kind of reminds me of when water boils down and leaves the deposits on the side of the pot. The last thing I cooked in it was soup, so that could be it. My previous one was an ivory color, so maybe I just never noticed it before, but this one is black and I can really see it and it basically doesn't look clean.

I'm having a hard time getting the gunk off. I'm going to get some Bar Keepers Friend at T today and try that. Any other suggestions? Any ideas what caused it and how to avoid it from happening? Please help save my crock-pot!

i am right with you in that boat, sweetie. right with you. PM if you feel like brainstorming.

i know *exactly* what you mean. you know what works: smart small. maybe casually show pics to friends or DH's coworker's family or a neighbor... and casually mention that people at chuck e cheese's were asking you do it.
if they bite and ask you to do one, you know maybe do one for someone you know well. see whether you like it, how much you get paid for it, and whether the time and thought invested/compensation ratio seem worth it to you.
if you do one and feel on the fence still, perhaps it isn't totally for you. if you do it and feel gleeful about the compensation and find yourself feeling excited about how you can make the cake pretty for some little girl, then maybe it is.
i encouraged 3 people dear to me to start certain businesses. and for all of them, there was the same initial hesitation. but they had to do it a few times to gauge for themselves how tedious is it? how much does it engage me creatively and intellectually? how big is the income potential for me and how interested am I in that? for 2 of the 3 it was a winning start. each success fed off onto another, until they were completely supporting themselves with a steady and big income from their ventures and feeling very excited about the creativity and sense of accomplishment and independence and achievement it brought them. but for the 3rd person, it just felt kind of empty. so they stopped. and that made total sense.

holler anytime you want encouragement or just someone to bounce thoughts off of. i am painfully honest, and promise to always be that way.

hug

GT! Wave hope you are staying warm!
it's 25 degrees with a 30mph raw cold gusty wind. right now the wind is whining and howling outside the window. it's a very eerie sound like a crying animal. feels in the single digits. brrrr.
meanwhile my coats and sweaters are all packed up and boxed up, sitting all the way at the bottom back of a storage room. i put them there at the end of spring, thinking by the time winter rolls around i will have moved or that i will at least have more closet space at home. none of those happened. and getting to those warm things will mean a day long endeavor of moving all the boxes then lifting them all back in place, then another day of rearranging the closet and making room for wintry stuff, and packing all else and finding room to put those packed things in storage.
Faint
i am not up for a 2-3 day adventure of box lifting and moving and re-piling.
so my trusty fleece is all i have and that will have to do. brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.
and hats and scarves of course. need to go buy some gloves today, i think. mittens torn, lost a leather glove last winter, so my fav gloves are now orphaned.
brrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr.

lisa, if you have a cvs or walgreens or rite aid near you, go buy a thermacare heat patch for either neck or back. they're paper thin but having the chemical inside that when exposed to air warms up - just like those glove warmer and boot warmer patches one finds in the winter at stores. thermacare lasts for 8-12 hours, not visible under clothing, no smell, nothing. cvs and wags both have generic versions also, that are usually cheaper. BUT if you go online to the thermcare site, you can print out qs... there's usually a $3/1 for the multipacks...

Ugh! So DH accepted this job a few weeks ago and last week they called and asked him whether he would be willing to transfer to Naples, FL after his 10 week training period in Tampa. He said no we are pretty set on going to Orlando. They told him that they had promoted someone from within and that he was given priority as to what restaurant he wanted to run. He chose the Orlando location. Now it only leaves a spot open in Naples and when DH originally started negotiating with the company (about 2 months ago) he told them that he was willing to relocate anywhere in Florida. That was then! We had already gotten used to the idea of moving to Orlando. Now it doesn't look like we are going to be able to. Plus, when he got his offer letter, there was a separate section about training. He would only be getting 1/2 of his regular pay for the 10 weeks training, unless he exceeds 55 hours per week...then he would get 1.5 times 1/2 of his pay....that is not doable on our current budget.

He had a conference call with them this morning to try and sort everything out and it looks like the company isn't able or won't budge on the Naples location or the training pay. So it looks like DH is going to have to turn down the offer Sadwalk

His current company has offered to transfer him to the Tampa location. Thankfully, he never formally gave his notice but they aren't willing to pay for relocation...which is like 2k. Plus, they are asking him to work here in MI until New Year's Eve which would mean that we wouldn't be down there for Xmas. I know that seems like a trivial thing...but all I want to do is cry about it. Weeping

End of rant.

Gator- Thanks for the kind words, but I am not superwoman by any means.. I work as little as possible and thankfully my job usually allows for some SD time laugh out loud My older kids basically homeschool themselves at this age, and well, lets just say, my records are running a "few" months behind, but I will catch up over the break.
Shopping only happens one or possibly two days a week for me.. And honestly, if it weren't for my DH helping out so much around the house, we would probably never have clean clothes to wear Wink

Fighting a darn cold this morning and I hate it. I have the constant scratchy throat thing going on.. But, thankfully my DD seems to be better. I gotta stir around and get moving.. Gonna be heading to work soon!

I hear ya on the SS thing.. I have tried so much to get just the right gift.. My person hasn't been around much lately either.. Bought what I thought was a "perfect" gift, then read a post that made me realize it wouldn't work.. I have now decided to just get some nice things that I would like and hopefully they will like some of them too! We need to mail by Friday, right?

Anyone see any good deals on the new Shrek movie coming out this week? My DH asked me last night about getting it. Guess I need to search for a deal.

And on the SS talk.. we had our work Christmas party last night and did SS gifts for that as well. The person's name I drew was very specific about what she wanted.. Kinda aggravating a little.. Mentioned she liked candles.. so I picked one out.. then she wrote a list and was specific about it being a "yankee candle" and that she wanted the big one.. she even left a coupon lying around work for 20% off bed, and beyond with a note attached to get her candle from there.. Well, you know as a SDer, her candles were coming from target and kohls Teehee Got one of the yankee candle jar home collection from target and a mixture of votives from Kohls. Plus, socks, candy, glade, and some bath and body works lotion.. I thought I did a good job, but she may have been disappointed still.
I got a nice basket of some things I mentioned liking.. photo frames, coffee mugs, and some bath and body lotion..
End of story - it is hard to buy for people you don't know.. Even though she told me what she wanted, I had no idea if she liked fruity candles, or perfume scented ones.. Just took a guess!

Oh, gator! So sorry your plans aren't coming out right! I will ask Santa for a Christmas miracle for you!

getgreen, your post made me remember that last weekend Verizon had an open house, and had a basket of hand warmers as goodies. Stuck 2 in my purse. Just the perfect size to stick under my bra strap! Can't run anywhere as DH has the car, DS has his last follow-up appointment with the surgeon this morning. (We carpool to work) Just glad I don't clean out my purse! Now to find them among all of the coupons!

HDD, DS works at a video store, so I can 'rent' them. Would I be able to do what you want done with them, and mail?

On the SS gifts, I am struggling too! I want to get the perfect gift, but that is impossible if you dont' know them well. Just know that I am very easy to buy for, just in case you wanted to know!
