Yes, we were lucky that the trailer didn't jack-knife. We were actually lucky that we *did* run off the road because it made us turn around and find a hotel for the night, instead of driving down the 5% downgrade canyon we were heading towards. In the dark, snowy icey night. EEK!

That would have been an absolutly terrifying drive I'm sure. Wise move , sometimes a whisper before the bat.

No kidding...I must be missing some great deals, because nothing is motivating me to go out and I even live in NorCal where the weather has been really nice.

It's so neat to wtch people in wonderment and joy, thats what I like so much about about kids , they 're not jaded and are discovering.

The ice I have to admit , I had a REALLY scary near death experience with a tractor trailer coming sideways down the road at me on ice , on a vey narrow two lane road I wound up in a front yard about two feet from some poor souls picture window, was a single mom on the way to work. God had other plans that day . Any whooo let me terrified of ice storms.
I can't even get in the car I start shaking.
i know what you mean.
about 7 years ago, there was one of those changeover storms that went from ice to sleet to heavy snow so fast that everything under was frozen and plows couldn't get to it. i was heading home from work for my mum's birthday.

i was in the extreme left lane going down an icy hilly highway that was jam packed because of frozen layer and terribly low visibility. when cars slowed even further, tailgating giant suv rearended my suv hard. sent me careening and sliding down the hill fast. fish tailing wildly and steering in direction of skid, i realized the swerves were getting wider and next time round i was going to t-bone the motorist to my right and likely kill him. so muttering to myself that this is what insurance is for, i realized the next swerve in the guardrail direction i had to let the car hit the guardrail. it was my only chance. hit guardrail, front crumpled, i said out loud, "it's okay, thank you jesus."

no sooner had i said that, my car bounced off the guardrail, ended up in center lane and started spinning wildly. i was holding the steering and screaming "jesus help me!" after about 8 or 10 spins, car stopped, still in center lane, but at a diagonal. in wrong direction. facing traffic. i could see motorists staring at me through the orange snowy glare and gingerly making their way around me. of course the guy who had hit me had not bothered to stop.

i was in shock, but i thought move, girl, you're going to be badly hurt. i started to steer unwilling car, when a guy in an old model toyota decided to be superman. he came flying down the highway, weaving around cars hooting out his car window, he ended up in right lane, still speeding and crashed straight into the left back of my wrong-facing car. i heard and saw pieces of the back of my car splatter over the highway. he never stopped. but before i could do anything, the second crash sent the car into tail spin 2. there i was screaming again as the car spun about 6 or 8 times. then it stopped. now i was perpendicular to the oncoming traffic. freaked i steered my unwilling car to shoulder. as soon as i managed to get it to shoulder it wouldn't move at all anymore.

called AAA. i saw them on other side of highway. they were turning to get to me, about 0.25 miles away from me, when a tow truck trolling for business saw me. he pulled over and said get out and i will tow your car. i refused saying AAA is coming. so he called over a trooper, told him i was being belligerent and creating a hazard (nevermind that AAA was now about 8 car lengths from me). had the trooper threaten to arrest me. EEK! trooper forced me to go with tow truck guy, who then said i had to leave car at their lot overnight. charge was 50 bucks an hour cos of weather plus $390 for towing to the lot half a mile away.
i refused to leave car overnight and this guy tells me how he had just gotten out of state prison and you don't know what i could do to you you b and w and this and that.
sobbing, i withdrew 390 from my account, took a rcpt and told him to ditch me on the road. which he did while calling me obscene names. without a cellphone i found a payphone, called AAA. waited in the cold car for 4.5 hours until they got to me.

turns out power steering belt had ripped out, fluid completely leaked by the time I got to shoulder - i was so lucky. jesus was watching over me. not a scratch on me. my car sustained $13,500 in damages. everything from power steering and radiator to water pump, suspension, frame, headlights. i mean you name it. i heart that car. it saved my life. and went back to running as new. loyal thing.

to this day, when i drive in wintry weather, if I feel the slightest skid, i end up getting nerve tingles all over my body instantly. it's like an electric shock. so scary.

Did go shopping earlier.. wrapping gifts now.. Have I mentioned how much I hate it? laugh out loud

As far as deals go.. yeah, not finding too much. Trying to grab a few more sonicare. I only had 4 coupons, so I can only snag 2 more anyway.. unless I order some. Which, I did consider. Would be nice to have enough for the whole family. I am just basically trying to finish up my shopping for my kids.. I want to be done..

Wish I had some snow to play in.. that would make this cold weather more fun!

OMG that is horrible, glad you survived to tell that story. I am shocked at how much detail you managed to to remember through a terrible and fast sequance of events.

That tow truck driver and police officer are two of the most inhumane people on the face of the earth.
Talk abot a scam. athe guy was prbly getting kick backs from this tow service.

I didn't hit anything , or get hit , was following a tractor trailer in front of me , tractor trailer in front of him, car in front of him ,both of us crawling literally, oncoming trafiic was another tractor trailer.

Car starts spinning out of control in front of the first trailer , is struggling to regain control , 1st tractor sees this comes to a stop, second asshole decides to pull into oncoming traffic to pass him , sees what's going on ,tries to stop ,can't no room to pull back into lane ,hits the brakes and now the whole load is coming at me sideways taking up both lanes. I just held onto the wheel and turned ,figured if i hit a tree I had a better chance. Wound of hitting nothing came to rest at this picture window. I was terrified I was going to go through it and kill someone. The car stopped prior to that. However left me much like you, with this terrible post tramatic stress reaction to ice storms and cars .

So glad your okay

I totally just gave in and opened my gift from my SS (was I supposed to wait? Cause the package was taunting me, sitting by my bedroom door looking all lonely...)

And oh my GOSH, whoever you are, I love you! Jen Lancaster's new book! And a Jacksonville Sbux mug! And cute coupon cards! And cute socks! Okay, so I'm choking up here a bit. Things have been so rough lately, this has just made me smile more than you could ever know. hug

Off to make a French press of Sbux Christmas espresso blend in my new cup (would try the pumpkin spice K cups you sent, but my Keurig is in a black hole of my garage right now).

So glad your okay t
so glad YOU are okay. hug that could've ended up badly. funny how someone is always watching over us in really tough moments.

scam... TOTALLY. trooper didn't even write up an accident report. he got written up for that. it was like the double accident never happened and he never met me. didn't call it in, nothing.

details: photographic memory. i remember most things in life in pictures, sounds, smells. makes my memories very vivid.

ok, i want to Bonk you for opening without the rest of us and hug you at the same time (i know you don't like hugs from strangers, virtual hugs, girl, virtual hugs) for things being so rough. is that allowed - emotional dichotomy? laugh out loud

sending you big hugs. sending your SS big hugs for being so thoughtful and sending you things that you had put on your list. that was so nice!

now i'm certain my presents to my SS are terribly vapid in comparison. Sadwalk

doesn't coffee at night keep you wide awake Bigeye

Secret i read that as pornographic Roll Eyes (Sarcastic)

*sigh* Well, we just finished White Christmas. That movie is LONG. Baby woke up near the end, so I suctioned her nose, fed her, and now she's taking the opportunity to puke all over my left shoulder.

I have a feeling it's going to be a longish night. This is the sickest kid I've ever had!

ETA:

I take that back... my oldest did get a lot of strep/ear infections. I have just forgotten after 14 years...

Sorry for opening, I just couldn't help myself. Plus my cat Toby was using it as a bed and he likes to randomly pee on things, so to save it from a pee filled fate, I opened it. lol.

Funny you mention the hugs, I was talking with an old friend about that earlier tonight. I used to be a super huggy person and sometime within the last few years, I developed this strange fear of people touching me. It's not a germ thing though Confused

I haven't been sleeping lately (with or without coffee), so I just go ahead and drink up.

Anyone know of good deals on wall calendars anywhere? I've had the ridiculously overpriced Kate Spade one in my cart for weeks, but I just can't pull the trigger.

calendar... cant you do use the hallmark q in store for that? they have calendars.

or borders bucks.

kohls of course. Evil

fear of being touched... it's not a germ thing no. it's generally a psychological reaction that develps in reaction to some traumatic event, either recent or distant. it can also be a symptom of depression. it's a known phobia though.

if you're on any antianxiety meds or anti-depressants or such, you should talk to your doc and let him/her know cos it could also be a side-effect and a sign of worsening depression (which is sometimes a side effect of meds that are not workig well with your body)

so sorry you're going through such difficult times. hug

p.s. have you ever tried meditation? i never manage to do it because my mind is always racing and i don't have the patience to quiet it down. BUT, my family swears by meditation.
however, when i get really stressed about something, or if things have been tough, i sit and do deep breathing excercises. basically consciously take a slow deep breath counting to 5, then releasing slowly while counting back from 5 to 1. i usually do this a few dozen times. it is amazing how much it calms your body and mind because it has an actual physiological effect.

ok, either this house is very warm or something is wrong with me. i am so hot and i can't stop perspiring. and no it's not a hot flash LMAO i am far too young for that. i have been feeling very warm for hours now but right now it's to the point i want to scream. it's very uncomfortable. going to go turn on the air for a bit.

I used a $10 Hallmark Q on a calendar this weekend! Still paid about $6 or $7 OOP, but well worth it. The one I like for my kitchen is usually sold out and hard to find if I wait until they go down to 50%.
