I completely agree as well! That's what we do for my dad. Years ago I started buying him a Hallmark train ornament and every year I send him whatever train ornament is available that year.
Sounds like he has a really pretty tree.

"Use little or no water

Fresh vegetables and fruits contain enough natural moisture to cook without adding water. Simply place vegetables or fruits in utensil and cover with cold water for a moment. Pour water off quickly. The moisture that clings to the food is sufficient for minimum moisture cooking.
Water is necessary for preparing soups, rice, dried cereals, dried fruit, dried vegetables, dried beans and pasta.
Meats can be cooked in their own natural juices."
Good, less calories than cooking in olive oil. )

I just got my Crock Pot ready....going to try Chicken Taco meat in the crockpot tomorrow. The crock pot is about the only way I will cook raw meat laugh out loud Anyway, this one is super easy...put 1 lb. chicken in crock pot, dissolve 3 TBSP taco seasoning in 1 cup of chicken broth, pour over chicken and cook on low 6-8 hrs.

Doesn't get any easier than that! We love chicken tacos (and chicken quesadillas, etc.) so I am hoping this will be an easy way to do that.

All right, to bed for me....'night all!

i agree with cathi's husband... sounds like a wiring problem exacerbated by movement/bumps from the car running.

have your DH check 3 things:
1. check that the battery is screwed into place. if that u-clamp that holds the battery into the tray has come off or come loose, the battery will rattle around.
2. the connection the terminals. are those tight? come loose?
3. the wires from the battery terminals are they cracked, torn anywhere? as cars get old, especially in cold weather, the insulation around the wires can get dry/crack.

if none of those are true, or not visible easily, look up the advance auto parts store near you and go in. they will do a free checkup for you, right in front of you, and let you know how much charge is left in your battery, as well as whether there is any issue with the starter, the alternator, the wiring.
so you will know right away.
Thank you! I think I remember looking at the battery a week or so ago and thinking that I was seeing wires that I can't ever remember seeing exposed on any other battery before... but I don't know much about vehicles! I'll definitely get it to an auto store and have them take a look at it then - thanks for the info!

It sounds like our alternator to me. I called autozone and they said a new alternator is $185 and it looks like it'd be somewhat easy to do - i.e. no digging to find it. *sigh* If it's not one thing, it's another... looks like I gotta figure out how to get $200+ to fix the van before I can even think about new pans!! ha ha ha

That is a nice pan set - and I think my grandparents had the same one!
Battery, a friends car had similar issues and it was the battery. I hope it is whichever is the cheapest, easiest, and fastest to fix.

Thank you, I thought so when I saw them, very thick and sturdy. Whomever gave them to my mom to give them to me had tossed them all into a large white garbage bag. When I first saw them in the trash bag I was confused, thought it might be a weird crappy set of pans.

I agree! And today, at least here, it's perfect weather for hot cocoa. With or without schnapps.

That sounds yummy! And a great idea. After I clean the crock pot from the soup we had yesterday and today, I'm making chicken tacos.

I think maybe I am too tired and should go to bed. Do you ever have where you are thinking something and as soon as you think it the thought is just *poof* gone out of your head? It's like I can't hold my thoughts in tonight. (or most nights, really... or days...) They are just escaping into the atmosphere.

Okay, my mom has given me the task of finding a great deal for my niece and nephew for Christmas (good ol Aunt Katherine is giving them those travel Hungry Hungry Hippos and possibly a stash of Suave for the hell of it laugh out loud). Niece is 10 and nephew is 7. I was thinking something crafty, but I may have to wait and see what Kohl's has. Or do kids that age even like stuff like that any more? When I was 10, I still played with my American Girl dolls (okay, I'm 25 and I still have them...) and my niece wouldn't be caught dead with a doll.

my goddaughter is 8 going on 28. she likes to use her father's old iphone (with phone part disabled) which now belongs to her, to email me, play games, use apps. oh and she likes to read and hang out with her girlfriends. god help us when boys enter the picture. she was this shy, quiet, demure cerebral thing at 6 and 7. all of a sudden she's growing into her own, this young woman with a fiercely independent streak, and precociousness that makes you stop and catch your breath.

8.

i don't know what 10 will be like, but i'm willing to bet, dolls won't be playing a big part.

does she like reading? perhaps you could get something with the borders coupon...

another idea... several years ago i had given a friend's 10 yr old son and 8 yr old daughter a joint present.. a cookbook for kids. they LOVED it. and made lots of stuff with parental supervision nearby of course. made for kitchen messes, but yummy dishes made with love and plus, it kept the kids busy, and got them learning skills. all these years later, the kids still talk about that cookbook and the meals they made with it. and both of them have learned to love cooking! nod

if you like that idea, i had gotten them a williams- sonoma kids cookbook. amazon carries them. i imagine borders and B&N do, too. but there are also other great kids' cookbooks on amazon and other places.

also for anyone interested in cooking with their kids... here [williams-sonoma.com] is a great link to the Williams-sonoma master page with techniques for kids, recipes, tips, learning plans. all sorts of great stuff!

and for anyone trying to get there kids to eat healthy there is also this great, great cookbook and really family foodbook called "The Family Dinner [amazon.com]"

I second the kids' cookbook. I found one for $5.99 at Borders last week for my 11 year old. With the 50% off coupon it would be $3.

For the 7 yr old, I'll pm you.

that 50% off q says off list price. is that what they are doing inflating price then reducing it, or do they count the store/shelf price as the list price?

i want to get a book as a gift, but online it shows "list price" and then "you price" Confused will my price really become half of the "your price" cos if not, it really is the same price as the in-store price.

and i think you must have just paid too much of a price in brain power to decipher that sentence above. sorry. LMAO

The one I bought was a bargain book so the red stickered 5.99 price was the new "list" price. I used my 25% teacher's discount, which also comes off the list price, and the discount came off of the 5.99. Big Grin

My 11 yr old loves to watch Food Network. She knows the chefs' names by heart so I figured it was a good start for her. The cookbook is cute, lots of simple recipes and tips. Lots of pictures.

Yeah, Borders is big on inflating those prices. Ever check the prices of DVDs? shake head
