jteef1, Welcome and i hope you'll stay cos i heart you too! Blowkiss

thank you all for prayers and support! the rollercoaster of pain continues. the house looks ransacked by a hurricane and i have houseguests coming thursday for the new year's weekend - plans made long in advance. i am so worried as to how to get this all squared away. and/or how to participate in any celebratory/touristy activities with em. sigh.
heart you too! You are one of my favorite do-gooders! Blowkiss
Maybe you could tell them they just missed the hurricane - and there is nothing left to see... Wink

Do I have to start drinking coffee too?

Actually, I ALMOST got a Keurig. Got all excited when Office Depot had 100% rewards on the k-cups. I wanted to start drinking coffee so I could get it free!
(Still drinking Liptons Tea that I got free at Walgreens last April.....)

well, I gave in and fired up the Keurig.. Drinking some decaf french vanilla right now drool
Finally went shopping today.. Did some returns to Walmart and Kohls.. Went by target.. no jedi in sight.. Did a little after Christmas scouting. My store still had quite a few ziploc left.. Also found some vanity fair plates and cups.. I decided to wait on the ziploc cause I didn't have any coupons with me.. Just grabbed a few of the free up and up hand soaps (which don't smell that great to me.. wouldn't have gotten them if they weren't free Smilie) and my usual free degree and suave.. gathered some coupons tonight and am heading back tomorrow. Also found a whole row of the holiday palmolive on the shelf with the regular ones and the holiday goldfish crackers too!

i'm baaaaaaaaaaaaaack! took me 3 days after xmas to catch up w/ all you chatterboxes.

hope everyone who got sick or injured while i was away is on the mend, esp gg b/c she always agrees w/ everything i say Stick Out Tongue. wishing those of you who have experienced loss so close to the holidays can find some comfort and also some hope and joy. esp when you share your bounty w/ others who are in need of some. and bounce for .teri. getting a granddaughter and greatniece(?). and i'm blown away by all the thoughtfulness and generosity by all the secret santas here!

i also love all the recipe sharing here. i save them esp the easy peasy ones and one day i will try them. well, ok, maybe not the candy ones.....or well maybe i'll try them w/ the nephews or bff's kids.

which brings me to the diet support group. where'd everybody go Confused3? first thread i caught up on and posted in day after i got back and nobody's posted since. gonna have to get out the Whip!

Quote from flugette :
Our stockings are homemade, knit by my grandma and then my mom made my kids ones from the same pattern. Its wonderful to open it Christmas morning, but a BEAR to fill, because they stretch!!!

*snip*

Oh, and one last thing - the lady in front of me at the checkout at T tonight had a huge order, full of toys/gifts and lots of wrapping paper. Her total ended up being well over $200, which she paid in cash. Faint But ... she was short a DOLLAR!!! Big Grin I didn't realize what the holdup was, I was just standing there twiddling my thumbs, until I realized she was calling her hubby on her cell phone to come inside and give her a dollar. I may not have much money, but I can spare a dollar for the poor lady!! It was so funny, and she was so thankful. I told her it was an early Christmas present.
have you ever thought about lining your knit stockings w/ some sort of non-stretch liner? you might even be able to find some clearance stockings that fit inside w/o showing.

your story was great but would have been way more awesome if you had been able to whip out a few coupons so she had gotten some money back Teehee!

Quote from tn_native :
Why are most Qs for non-healthy foods? Fried chicken, cookies, muffins, pies, snack foods. I need to start trying to eat better (TM4D, I made the taco chicken with six chicken breasts that I found in the freezer last night in the crockpot and separated it out into 3 containers to freeze), but it doesn't help me to know I've got coupons for items that are dirt cheap, free, or pay me for them when I shouldn't bring them in the house. I could be a vegetarian, but the muffins and brownies and cake really wouldn't be good for me either. The cat doesn't eat any of these and she's the only other living soul in the house.

Except when my Dad lived with me when he broke his leg, I've never cooked supper every night (throwing a frozen dinner in the microwave is not cooking) like most of you moms do. Usually when I make something, part of it has to go in the freezer, or I get sick of it eating it every night for dinner. I've bought bagged salad twice now, and it rotted before I ate it. I bought cauliflower and forgot it was in the frig and it went to liquid Sick I wondered what the funky smell was in the frig. I found a block of cheddar yesterday, but it expired in 2005. I bought some oranges and tangelos for a school support thing, but I think the tangelos are history, as I left them in the garage and I think they froze instead of bringing them into the house.

My SIL keeps saying I need an organizer like on the show Neat (fit.tv) Love to have one of those, but I hate throwing stuff away that I paid $$ for. I'm single and have two refrigerators AND a 13 cubic foot freezer that are all stuffed to the gills (maybe wouldn't be if I cleaned out all the expired stuff though).

Where do you find tortilla chips like restaurants serve that aren't salted (Ones I've bought in the snack aisle don't work and are W A Y too salty)? My favorite mexican food is chicken nachos, so I wanted to make some with the taco chicken I made. I baked some low carb flour tortillas last time and they were OK, but not what would compare to the mexican place (and I don't want to buy a fryer just for nachos).
ITA! and i have to give kudos to target for continuing to periodically put out a produce coupon the last 2 yrs even though it was totally self-serving to promote their rollout of expanded groceries.

i've read that the reason why junk food is cheaper than healthy food is b/c of all the gov't subsidies of large corporate farms which more often than not nowadays ends up in the pockets of wealthy *farmers* like sam donaldson and major companies like tyson chicken. see-
http://www.policytoday.com/index....Itemid=149

farm subsidies is also causing all the high fructose corn syrup and soy to be in our foods b/c if they used it for biodiesel instead, they wouldn't receive easy gov't money.

it can be difficult to cook for one. don't have to do it every day, but maybe a goal of 3-4x/wk. there are cookbooks for one out there. maybe invite a guinea pig over and experiment on them periodically? i'm sure there are others out there who also have the same problem of cooking for one also and maybe could alternate or something.

i cook for 2 and hate leftovers but over time i have ended up liking to cook extra or double portion so don't have to cook so often. i always skip a day so never eat the same thing the next day.

what you need to do is find somebody who hates to cook like bff. i end up cooking at her house many times b/c she has 4 kids and just easier to do it there. but i know if i ever just felt like cooking for a bunch of people she'd be over whenever i got the urge.

Quote from jteef1 :
What I don't understand is why - if there is any problem with a coupon and you just politely say "Then please take that item off my order" they never do. They just act like you didn't say it. Read coupons, re-read coupons, call people over, have a line build up behind you, etc. etc.

It seems like it would be much easier for them just to void that item and let you move on.
hmmm, never had this problem. i just hand them the item and say, *ok, i don't want this. can you void it off my order? i'll just take the coupon back to use another time.* and hold out my hand for it.

of course target is always ymmv.

Quote from bunnies46 :
I got one. No idea why, but I did. Hopefully it is yummy!
Question...do you think it would keep until Valentines Day? I could take off the Christmas wrap and re-wrap? Thoughts?
i think i read it has pears in it. they won't last till valentines day for sure. my mom has ordered pears from them b4 to give us and for whatever reason haven't gotten them in a timely manner and they were almost rotten.

Quote from bunnies46 :
First rule of T chit chat...you must become a meanie.
Based upon that we shall call you a bottom feeder. You shall cry and thrash about.

When you are done..you must say bad things and watch the vampire porno movie.

Then you will be accepted as one of us. You must also solemnly swear to work on getting a keurig (apparently it makes you one of the in crowd. I am still working on mine).

That is all.
Sadwalk

i will never be one of the in crowd. i rarely ever drink coffee, have at least 7 boxes of swiss miss to finish by march/april and already have 2 coffee makers in the cabinets of which i only use one about once a yr. i will never be able to justify a keurig Weeping!

so are the kind thoughts

QUOTE=getgreen09;35832819]cathi, food, prayers, love, chores: what you are giving is what they need the most right now. and it is priceless, because outsiders can't do this. remember that.

also, i know this is tough to do and easier to say cos this is your brother, but try to pace yourself. they're going to need you for many months and he will need you too. i have had people very dear to me face unexpected and major health challenges out of the blue: it is emotionally and physically grueling. and in the beginning we go in all guns blazing and then as months go by we get spiritually and psychologically and physically worn out some. turns out that's when the patient needs us the most because they are worn out, too. so try if you can help it, try not to do all-nighters, and try to keep some semblance of your original sleep/rest/meals/family routine. you'll need it.

sending big big big prayers and lots of hugs your way.[/QUOTE]

Just these two days of overdoing, then I'll work out a reasonable schedule, I can't sleep now anyway,so it keeps me doing, instead of feeling, and is at least productive .You are definateleyright about the long haul, we've been through this with my husabnds father who passed from cancer two years ago, so I kind know the drill .,and truer words were never spoken , thanks for the reminder to stay Flex

Oh, now that just sucks. Call the vet for some drops and start using up that stockpile of cleaning crap. Catch it now before it gets out of control. You'll also want to use up some of that outdoor bug stuff in the blue bottle that we were getting free (spray it all around the exterior perimeter of your house) - can't remember the name of it but I have at least 30 bottles of it in my garage Embarrassment. Maybe Raid?

Ugh. I am so not looking forward to that. Hide I got rid of my raid! Facepalm Didn't think I'd need it. *sigh*

Is Frontline the drops stuff?

Looks like I've got a lot of vaccuming and cleaning to do.

She's definitely got something going on. She is gnawing the heck out of her legs and hindquarters. The last time I had to get rid of fleas (our old place was infested) it took a good 2 1/2 months of constant deep cleaning to get rid of them all. Frown

g'morning meanies! Wave

my new favorite is bigelow's green tea w/ jasmine. normally i like to drink black tea in the winter, so dunno why. don't think that comes in a kcup either Sadwalk.

today i'm catching up on deals from the 25th on. only read the recaps from when i was away, what ones there were, so skipping all the drama/fun. gonna have to work on putting a complete team back together but i think i'll just wait till after new yrs.

good thing i bought almost all my gifts b4 we left. i did look all over hong kong, thailand and cambodia for just the right thing for bff and found it on the last night we were there. actually 2 of them, one facing right, one facing left and didn't know which was correct, so just bought both as a funny story to tell since they were inexpensive. and worked on my bargaining skills while i was at it which were exceedingly rusty. what was really funny was when first time out i offered half and she said ok, just like that! it was either b/c most of the night market is closing to make way for a mall so many of the jewelry places said *half off* or *closing sale* right off the bat or b/c few people were interested in that particular design.

jet lag has me all screwed up, sleep and diet-wise. just haven't been eating, period. in-laws went wacko w/ the food on xmas day. we brought so much food home again just like thanksgiving. it's getting passe' to eat the same thing every day real quick and making me lazy to cook.

blizzard on the 26th also has me homebound. which i guess is ok, since i only want to buy if it's 75-90% off and i do not need to buy any choco or other candy so less temptation. but is making the jetlag worse b/c i'm not getting back into the swing of things. just staying home sleeping and eating whenever.

think i should work on a new yrs resolution for the next few months to really clean my house and stop buying things i don't need. while it was fun to sell cheap, free and mm's at my biennual yard sale, i think it took time and effort away from the main purpose of reduce, reuse and recycle. i don't do yard sales often enough to justify buying stuff just to sell every 2 yrs. and need to eat down and donate my stockpile so there is less expired. and just buy less. too many piles around the house.

Aw, thanks. Pretty craptastical day. DH was supposed to drive in and pick me up for lunch. I had reminded him twice. Lunch time rolls around, I call. They are half an hour in the opposite direction, looking at a car. Tell them to forget it. They show up an hour later, and I have turned off my cell phone. Claim they don't know where to look for me (have explained it numerous times, they decide not to even try). Cry all the way home from work, go straight to bedroom. They all decide to ignore me all evening. Lovely. Just lovely.

Nephew had a central line placed on Monday, to make transfusions easier. They will begin working on a bone marrow transplant. At least he is growing!

As long as you report when you drink your tea, how badly you want it, and how good it is, we will give you a pass for now. Once your tea runs out, we will reassess.

Not now that jteef has joined us. I don't drink flavored stuff -- just plain old half & half in my coffee. I also drink a lot of tea (about a pot a day) but I also don't care much for most flavored teas either. Once in while I like a little mint tea and the occasional White Chocolate Caramel cappuccino from one of those machines if we stop at a gas station. But even then, I usually get regular coffee.

I did make some really yummy coffee truffles.drool

The Swiss Miss will be fine for a long time - like years - past the date on the box. And you drink tea, so you are safe.

Now, I have to get off my arse and go get another cup of coffee. You'd think I could teach one of these dogs to fetch it for me.

morning.. Yawn DH is off this week and I stayed up way too late last night playing video games with him.. It was fun, but I ma paying for it this morning. DD woke up at 7 am.. AND, she has a stupid cold and cough again.. Seems like she just got over the last one a week ago.. I think I need to clean and lysol the house. Someone here has had a cold for the last month. My oldest son is sick now and the toddler again.. I am so tired of hearing coughing and sniffling Frown

I do have coffee in hand and am trying to get going.. But, I am feeling exhausted! I think I am gonna let DH sleep another 30 minutes or so, and then get him up so I can take a nap.

Looks like no one is finding target at 75% yet.. I was gonna head out this morning, but I think I will wait til evening cause I need to go that way anyway. I am hoping my ziploc stash is still there when I get there. Even at 50% with the MQ and TQ, it is a great deal.. But, not enough to make me want to drive that 25 minute trip right now. I envy those of you who live 5 minutes from target Smilie

I found a whole stack of good coupons last night when I was looking for the ziploc.. A bunch I had never cut, so clipped them and they expire 12/31.. Keeping my fingers crossed that my fav jedi is working tonight!

Hope everyone has a great day! Happy shopping!
