I am so in awww that Mavis is that big already... I am not too sure about autism at all... so I can be any advice there...sorry but I can tell you she is adorable and unbelievably perfect

Mavis is growing up too fast.. keep her tiny still please and thank you.. cause I will miss seeing those tiny baby pics... but she will definitely be an adorable toddler just like her sister

On a separate note. Mamma's with autistic children - are there early signs or symptoms that show up in infants? I'm going to do some research, but thought you guys may be a good resource.

I realized maybe I should explain what's going on to get some insight. Mavis has this thing where she will toss her head back and forth a lot - kind of like saying "no". I just thought it was a muscular/developmental thing, but it actually seems to be more frequent than before and to the point that other people are commenting on it. She also does a lot of kicking/punching/and is highly "active" in her movements. I am just wondering if this is something to watch/ask about or if maybe I'm just overly paranoid since other folks are mentioning and questioning it.
She does babble, smile, laugh, coo, and will follow you with her eyes. She appears to know her name and will turn to look at you when you call out to her. She does look you in the eyes also - sometimes only briefly, but there are plenty of times that she'll look at you and coo/babble/smile while you are talking to her. So... I don't know. Just wondering.

I'm hoping it's just a stage then. I'm wondering if her head is itching or something. Her hair has been getting thicker, and it is pretty dry in the house. My toddler has been complaining of being itchy quite a bit. She does it a lot in her sleep. Maybe she's just "active" and that's one of the ways it manifests itself. *shrug*

I noticed she's been doing this weird little single cough thing lately too. I dont' know if it's a thing she's realized she can do, if she has a dry throat, or what. She's not sick with a cold, so who knows? She has been experimenting with her voice a lot too - letting out hollers or squeals, babbling and making funny noises. She learned how to do raspberries and loves when you do them too. Babies are so weird!!
She is definitely attentive. I'm going to be careful when she's bigger. She loves when I hold my hand up in front of her and move my fingers. I alternate touching my fingers to my thumbs, and she will stare and stare at my hand. She tries to reach for it and *sometimes* I think she is trying to copy the gestures too.

That's an interesting obsession. My 3 y.o. still has a thing for doors, but not as much as she did before. She loves to open and close them and will spend a lot of time opening, closing, going in and out, etc.. I don't know why. My oldest used to love handkerchiefs or small squares of fabric. She didn't do the blanket thing, but boy, she loved her hankey. Oh, and she loved feet. She would actually "talk" to people's feet.

I felt kinda bad, but had to make my son adjust his school schedule for the spring and he is only going PT to college now.. I just told him honestly.. he still hasn't found a job, his car isn't running, and with gas at 3.00/gallon, I can't afford to make that 45 minute trip each direction to take him to college classes 4 days a week.. I told him he must find a job and save some money for a car.. Or, he could try to get all his classes adjusted to 2 days.. He finally moved them around and managed to get 3 classes on Mondays and Wednesdays.. I kinda hate it that it is going to take him longer this way.. but, we just don't have the excess money right now. He has got to grow up and take on some of the responsibility.
Personally, I think Community Colleges are the route to go in the first couple years. Same teachers. Same books. Less $$$
Speaking of that - an idea for those of you who have kids that are getting near college age.
Most Community Colleges offer VERY reduced price tuition for employees (Full AND part time) and their families. Usually it is children up to age 25. Very reduced = $2 or $3 per credit hour. So having a part-time job at one can pay more than wages...
Universities also usually offer 1/2 price tuition to children - but the fees and the other half can still be pretty steep.

in strange news... for the last 2 days i've been getting this horrible neuromuscular pain going down my entire right arm to right hand, with my hand all cold and tingly and numb in places. was so uncomfortable. and pulling pain on my shoulder blade. well today i was in bed and i went to move and heard this loud pop/click in my shoulder. and just like that the nerve pain almost disappeared.
i'm grateful. very grateful, but i have to wonder what is going on in there. my shoulder still hurts like heck. just differently. wierd.
On the nerve pain - sounds like something popped into back into place...or into a different "out of place" place that isn't pressing on that nerve.
One very nice gesture was hubby's dad (who was estranged from his father and at first refused to go to the funeral) arranged for the local chapter of Patriot somethings (can't remember the second word in the name) to ride at this funeral. Its a group of motorcyclists who escort funeral processions of veterans. They take great honor and pride in doing it, and hubby got some neat pictures of them.
The Patriot Guards is a great group! I am glad they could honor him.
Did you get your limit of 2 on the drinks? I went last night and maxed out the pepsi deal, and got my electrasol.. My store only stocks 6 boxes.. I grabbed 3 last night for my deal, only leaving 3 on the shelf.. definitely not enough stock on that!
Had a sucky trip to the commissary tonight. EVERYTHING that produces overage was sold out. Must have been a wild weekend! I didn't take any Mueller's Pasta coupons with me though....lol - and they HAD some of that.

it has been a crappy day with yelling and arguments all day. i am always very thin-skinned, and with the pain added in, and the financial worries layered on, and the overwhelming amount of paperwork and legalese and complications on the insurance end, my fortitude for anger and tantrums is even less. i'm just worn out. physically, mentally and emotionally right now. tomorrow is a new day and i'll start again and try again to not feel so trapped and helpless and figure out how to get all these errands done plus all the household chores that are piling up. but for tonight, it's time for a few tears. sigh.
totally agree on the nerve pinching theory that you and cathi shared. something moved again/got pressed again today in the process of trying to put on a sweater. and with it the nerve pain is back. ugh. i tell you, the amount of damage one careless decision for one careless moment by one person can do to someone else - it's breathtaking. i doubt that driver even realizes how much hardship he has caused. something to think about when we all drive.
