I agree that counting 'calories' is about near impossible....which is why WW simplified the whole counting thing. I've never been big on low-fat or low-carb or anything where you eliminate because I think our bodies need all of those things in the long-run. The reason why both of those diets work (as long as you stick with them) is that carbs and fats are two of the biggest source of calories. So, by reducing carbs you are reducing calories.
The bottom line is that it *does* scientifically come down calories in vs. calories out when you are talking weight. If you burn more calories than you take in your body starts burning off fat, excess weight. Health is a whole different issue. Of course how many calories you burn is dependent on a lot of things too...most importantly individual metabolism.
I am not saying low-carb is bad or anything; I think it works....but I do not think you can say (as this author seems to) that other conventional ways of dieting just don't
