Should women stay in the kitchen where they belong?

24,836 1,948 May 31, 2006 at 12:24 PM in Question
Women - do you cook as well as your mother/mother-in-law ... did they cook as well as their mothers? ...or course not...

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think once women were allowed this whole 'equal rights thing' it signaled the downfall of our civilization. Higher divorce rates, higher teenage pregancies, obesity (since we have to eat out more), the ozone layer (that may be a stretch), etc. Let's get America back on track and the women back into the kitchen where they belong!

So do you believe it's your job to keep the house clean, have dinner waiting for your husband when he comes home from work, and take care of the children?
If my hubby had a normal job and was home the same time every day, then I would have dinner on the table waiting for him when he got home... well, really when he came downstairs from changing his clothes, his daily bathroom routine, putting away his work stuff... lol 15 minutes after he gets home!!!

If he'll be home after we eat, I just prep his dinner. I dont cook it until he calls and says he is about 1/2 hour away. He doesnt know I do it special so its hot for him like that, but its just my little way of saying I love you and I dont want you to eat warmed up dinner vs fresh out of the oven dinner.

mr. val738 = lucky man. my wife does the same for me. it's actually rare that we all eat together, bc she usually needs to have the kids fed before i get home so they can go to bed shortly after.

if a man doesn't work, he shouldn't eat.

I do, yes. But if financial reasons call where I have to work, I am more then willing. But even if I work, i still do the housework and childcare. Why? because it's a woman's job. I don't mow the lawn...man's job. house work...woman's job.

I think it is because we agree, it gets us out of the house more and then we don't have to clean and cook and all of the other household chores

I don't think they should always work. If a couple has kids, and the dad wants to stay at home, he should stay at home if it's financially feasible. And if a woman wants to stay at home, she should if it's financially feasible. It's something a couple should work out for themselves.

And then who would be responsible for household stuff? Would you share the work if you both worked, or would it still be all your responsibility?

FairyTaleMom--- I 100% TOTALLY agree that men should ALWAYS work.

Sometimes Dad is the better and more competent parent, so if he wants to stay home, then he should, vs Mom staying home, I suppose.

It drives me CRAZY when I hear guys (or their wives) say that they cannot find a job "ANYWHERE"...... ERRRRR I would expect my DH to work at McDonalds if he HAD to, just to bring home money, until he found something better!!!!! "Can't find a job anywhere",..... Yeah, youre not looking hard enough, if at all!!!!

If we both worked equal hours, I would expect him to take over SOME of the chores, but he will ALWAYS ALWAYS work more hours than I will, so I will for the most part, do more chores. But then again.... we have two kids, so they will start getting handed more chores that they can handle too!!!!!!

Iagree maybe it's just my sexist view...a man not working is just lazy

Like my post said, I still do the housework, and he does the yard work. Even when I do have a job outside of the home. (I am a WAHM right now)
