Should women stay in the kitchen where they belong?

24,836 1,948 May 31, 2006 at 12:24 PM in Question
Women - do you cook as well as your mother/mother-in-law ... did they cook as well as their mothers? ...or course not...

Don't take this the wrong way, but I think once women were allowed this whole 'equal rights thing' it signaled the downfall of our civilization. Higher divorce rates, higher teenage pregancies, obesity (since we have to eat out more), the ozone layer (that may be a stretch), etc. Let's get America back on track and the women back into the kitchen where they belong!
Should women stay in the kitchen where they belong?

So he sent her to Antartica...

Decent rules to live by can be found here: https://slickdeals.net/forums/showthread.php?sduid=14128&t=801311 Just subsitute "woman" for "server" and you've got the start of a good list.

Maybe that has something to do with the fact that men who work have many options open to them, while women who think it's their duty to stay at home have ONE option. Housewife. That doesn't sound very appealing to me.
The joy of staying home. Why do I choose to stay home? Because I get to see the moments that I will never see again. Their first step, first word, first homework assignment. I get to be there to talk with them about what happened at school that day and they won't feel like I still have work on my mind. I get to be there for EVERY booboo, EVERY bully. I will always be there. why? because I chose to be a MOM above all other things. Sure once they are off to school I will get a part time job while they're at school. And once they are off to college I will have plenty of time to do whatever I want...be it go back to school or work. My younger son will go off to college when I am 38. Even if I was 50, I would still do the same. Why? because my kids come first. Always. this is what is best for them. To have mom there to support them and to show them that they have a strong foundation.
Why have kids to have someone else raise them in a daycare? They are my kids. I run a home daycare because I feel sorry for the other kids that do not have parents like that. And because it's a job that I can work from home, and still put my kids first. If I couldn't do that, I wouldn't be doing it.
My reward? When they are grown and gone, I can look back on all the sweet things of every day. Getting to see my son's first kiss(yes I saw it!!! LOL. I will forever have it to blackmail him with) to being the one to help him ride his bike for the first time, be the one to teach him ALL he knows. To see him grow inside....it's just magical. You just don't know. Will I regret staying home and not having a job outside the house? Nope. There are always sacrafices to having kids. I gave up the more money to be able to have my kids happy and well taken care of.
But yet again, I have a job. I am a mom. That, in itself, is a job. I wouldn't have it any other way. shake head

I have always worked outside the home, and that makes me no less of a parent. Before my kids were in school full time, I worked part time, so that I could be there for them. When they started school, I went back to full time. Working and having a career makes me a whole person. You need to be that in order to be the best you can be for your children. It also sets examples for them that you can do whatever you set your mind to doing. I never miss a thing with my kids, cuz we have the kind of relationships where we communicate. If I missed something, they share it with me. They wouldn't want me to miss anything either. I think it is great that you stay at home, but remember that this is your life too, and if that is how you want to spend it, that is your choice. I chose to have a life for myself as well. For the record, my kids have never been to a daycare or sitter, I do not believe in that. But I do believe in having a fulfilling life for myself as well.heart

I hope you did not take it as an attack to working moms. I was explaining why I stay home. I am respectful to everyone's choices in life.

My wife (who works full-time) makes most of our meals in the mornings - what's typical prep time for these? We have ton of quick cook books, but sometimes quality is more important than quantity - it can be a bit overwhelming.
Prep time is VERY fast. For the chicken stuff, at least. You don't have to cook the chicken, you're just preparing it to the point of cooking. Some of the dishes you have to cook, but if you spend an hour cooking 3 meals it works out, you know?

I am a food snob. I will not eat mediocre food. This stuff isn't magical, but it's not bad. It's new flavors - not a single can of cream of mushroom to be found! LOL I honestly have enjoyed every recipe. (If you PM me I could be persuaded to PM you back a few recipes to try.)

I think it's more a question of, "what's best for the family." You don't EVER hear men whining about having to work to support a family. That is an absolute given and if a guy DOES complain about it, he will get NO sympathy from ANYONE, period. Now, women are starting to complain about housework, and they get TONS of sympathy....doesn't make sense. Just a double standard, I guess.
Good point!

I am actually shocked at the way this thread went. All the women cheering on their roles in the kitchen.
