So I caught a mouse.....

39,439 5,562 January 31, 2011 at 05:30 AM in Rant
Saw a mouse scampering around my garage so I got some glue traps. A little bit of peanut butter and within 45 mins I caught the sucker. His hind legs were stuck to the trap and he was bodyboarding around with his front legs. I took the trap and tossed it in the trash.

So I wake up later in the night by my dogs barking. I go down to the garage to check it out and lo and behold one of his buddies was trying a jail break and couldn't get out of the trash can (one of those rubbermaid round trash cans)! As soon as I lifted the top he took off. Mouse #1 was still in the bottom (fresh bag) twitching around. I left another trap (pack of 4!) with some more PB in the same spot.

30 minutes later I hear a "pop" sound which most likely came from the fireplace, but I go downstairs to check it out anyway. The trap I just put out 30 minutes prior is GONE but mouse #1 is still hanging out in the trash. I checked around a bit but couldn't find mouse #2 (he couldn't have gone far, stuck to the trap).

Fast forward to this morning. Still no mouse #2. Mouse #1 made a jailbreak - the trap is still in the trash but no mouse!

It's all out war now.... put down the second 2 traps - let's see if I catch anything! Hopefully my idiot dogs don't get stuck in the traps.

Ok well I guess I do care. I do remember at one time looking at a tiny mouse face thinking it was kinda cute. To bad they are so destructive and dirty. I care enough to want them to die quickly and not to suffer.

I will have to check into one of those, I like the no mess part. I am so glad I am married, if there is a dead mouse DH is the one to deal with it or kill it if it is still alive. My DH is fast, the first time we had a mouse in our house we were watching a movie and saw it scamper past near the door and he bolted after it so fast he caught it! He has done that twice. He then takes the mouse out the door and throws it as far as he can, he swears it would have died when it landed I told him they are going to come back and make a million more mice in our attic.
After that we got the traps. Ugh, just the thought of mice in the house Cold

Only $20 not as much as I thought, and I didn't click but a roll over makes the pics big too. EEK! If you have seen a dead mouse in a traditional snap trap that image is a lot worse than these ones, the mouse isn't mangled or anything. Poor lil mice.

And what rules were broken, exactly? Do you realise that, as being a new member, my posts have to be approved by a moderator first? I guess you didn't.

I don't know what is so hard to understand here - dragging out a creature's misery like that just makes one a monster. If you have to kill it, fine, but be quick and painless about it at least. Letting it writhe and squirm in a garbage bin while it pulls its skin off and breaks its bones is inhumane torture - that someone would opt to do that to a living creature is f'ed up, and defending this makes look one the fool (or a sociopath lacking basic human empathy).

After all, you were the one who disagreed on having the mouse not suffer. So torturing the poor thing is fine then? Speaks volumes, it really really does...

Perhaps you can explain to us what is so funny about what exactly you bolded there? I shouldn't have to be explaining stuff to you a child would understand (that animal abuse is wrong). But given the fact you said rodents aren't animals, perhaps that is not surprising.

Secret I believe the "Lounge Rules" are kind of unspoken rules... not Slickdeals Forum rules. She's not saying you broke any rules...

And hmm.. Scratchchin I didn't know new posts had to be approved first... Is that new, or did I forget?

Well, that is just irrelevant babble then so this person can ignore the points made. I'm yet to see a legitimate excuse/reason/justification to cause mice excruciating pain when the option is there for a mercy killing.

Don't get me wrong, I have no problem killing mice. But I have a problem with people being inhumane and abusive about it. I recall a story on someone using a glue trap, where he caught the mouse and decided to burn it alive. The glue melted, the mouse bolted and ran back into his house, causing it to go up in flames. There's some poetic justice for you, it never pays to be cruel to animals like that.

I hate mice in my house...but I wouldn't want them to suffer more than necessary to get rid of them.

So you can't justify your position... at all?

Yeah, I thought so. You have absolutely no argument, so please stop wasting my time with this childish "rofl hurr durr this iz funniez" rubbish and leave the adults to discuss this. I'm still waiting for what kind of excuses the OP can come up with.

Well I caught another one! My wife mentioned it to me this morning - I walked right by the mouse last night when I got home, but I hadn't caught a mouse in days so I thought I had trapped them all.

This guy, though, was well stuck and already dead by the time I got to him this morning. Good thing my dogs didn't find him first.

Maybe you should stop torturing animals and get traps that actually quickly kill them instead?

I don't know why you left that first mouse just to sit and suffer in your garbage bin, but that is just a low thing to do. Shame on you.

Dunno when he was caught or died - my wife noticed it when she got home yesterday and I got to it this morning. He had already croaked by then.

Gee, if you are going to trap them then you must have 24 hour monitoring on your traps. It's only humane.
