Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

[QUOTE=SynGal;37149449]LMAOI started showing teeth when I was trying to help some people with the netbook & got a bunch of flack!

SynGal - If you are talking about my post, I apologize. I was not trying to contradict your advice. There are some people who are afraid to even load programs onto their computers (my sister in law is one of them - I had to install MS Office for her - she was going to pay BestBuy to do it for her EEK!) and I was just mentioning the touchpad did not have to be disabled to use a mouse.Sorry if I offended you, that was not my intention. Great price. Thanks for letting us know about it. Just ordered one for myself and my new baby -- assuming it ever shows up.

I just ordered it, so I will let you know! We have a total of 7 computers here, so I am sure it will get used no matter what! OOPs, make that 8, forgot about my netbook!
You cant go wrong with a flash drive (damn near any one) because the 'U' in USB is universal, they are meant to be plug and play with any computer. Certain computers might ask you to reformat one to a certain format (since your netbook is win 7, it will probably be fat32 or NTFS) but will work on that. Dont let best buy or office max tell you that a certain external hard drive or flash drive wont work with a specific computer. The only reason the 8GB SDHC card probably doesnt work with the netbook is because the actual reader doesnt support it. Hope this helps. wave

So I'm having fun with the netbook... I blew off Ubuntu Netbook and went to straight Ubuntu, I like the gnome desktop better than Unity. So far so good, I did have to go into gstreamer-properties and select the camera to get it to work, but otherwise no issues...

except the 8gb sdhc card. Is it working for anyone in Windows or is everyone having a problem with it? I'm wondering if it might be a BIOS thing?

Still have much work ahead of me to get everything I want installed and then moving over stuff from the other machine.

Thanks for I info! From what I have heard from most people, that 8G card won't work on anything, including cameras!! Won't throw it away yet, hopefully someone will come up with a use for it!

I should have read all the info before I turned on the netbook. I allowed it to partition the harddrive and am now wondering if that was the best thing to do. Would you give me your opinion?

I got the neatest little thing in the mail yesterday. It is a small LED/USB light! It is awesome. I do bookeeping for a guy with minimal light in his place and would find myself holding faded receipts up to the ceiling light to read them. This just plugs into a USB port, and I can read paperwork, receipts, etc in very dim light!! Think it was $1.99 w/fs at meritine. What an awesome little toy!!
I love mine -- it works great. I do wish it had a on/off switch though. That notwithstanding, I use mine at least 5 nights a week.

How you partition your drive is mostly a matter of personal taste. If your are going to multi-boot different operating systems then you usually want them each in their own partition, but otherwise there is no hard & fast rules.

On a typical one-OS Windows box I usually just do one big partition (Linux usually creates a separate swap partition with a different file format, but that's a Linux thing). Some folks like to have a data partition and an operating system partition, which can be handy if you find you want to reinstall the OS, but you may end up maxing one out (if you install a lot of programs or have a lot of data) which can be a pain later on. There are utilities that will let you resize partitions non-destructively (not destroying what's in them) so you can always change your partition arrangement if you find it doesn't suit you, though it can take a few hours.

Flash drive doesn't work for me either -- I tried to format it 3 ways in Windows, and then downloaded some low-level format tools. None of them worked at all.
