YES, and what's worse, supposedly legitimate businesses profit from this also. I had this on my laptop with the incessant popups unless you pay to remove them. AT&T supplies McAfee with my service. But when I called AT&T tech support about it, they said McAfee wouldn't remove it and they in turn charged me $150 to remove it, took a few hours to do this, and wanted a $15 monthly charge to keep it off. Then I found out that all I had to do was get MalwareBytes (something like that) and could have removed it myself. They could have told me that instead of scaring and extorting me. Do not like AT&T.

Mom's just showed up one day. We'd gotten an ashtray from the left over points for me and a note that my bike won't be here until June 30th, then her netbook showed up on the 10th (Feb).
