Hi all,

I started this thread for anyone who wants to come here for lite discussion, jokes, and just general discussion and fun.

Everyone is welcome!

I was thinking that maybe it would be helpful to keep the original thread to a bit more of a serious discussion of the clues and answers.

This would make the original thread more useful to those seeking serious information and clues without having to read through hundreds of extraneous messages.

So, I hope it catches on !

So pop a beer and pull up a chair and relax !

I grow some outside and towards fall bring a pot in for winter, but like I said bug prefers dried so most years I pull it up and hang it till dry(hang well out of cats reach or close door to room its hanging in.
My cat loves a nip, but the stuff Trin sent me is awesome! He finally quit bouncing off the wall, but he knows it is here somewhere and he is looking for it all over the place! So funny to watch him!! I have to hide the baggie, or it will be gone, seeds and all!

Just want to say how cool everyone on this site is! We not only look out for each other, but each others pets too. The little things we do for each other mean the most. (sending catnip seeds, giving each other sweeps posts, offering our help in so many ways whether it is making avatars or donating to charity drives) Thanks to everyone on this post!!

Where does your mother-in-law live? Is it a perrenial? If I plant some outside (rental property with lots of growing room) will it come back up each year like my rhubarb? WI
Or should I just grow it inside?
You might want to look online to see what zone you're in, and if catnip will survive in your zone. Where I live we're zone 3.

I'd use a 'light' soil or a seed starter soil like Redi Earth. Good to start in a small container. Check instructions for how deep to plant. If small container, watch watering - may need to water more often but don't over water. Keep moderately moist. Don't want to rot out the seeds.
Thanks, no instructions included since they came from a friend here on the FF, but sound pretty sturdy!! I will do some inside and outside! So excited after watching Sommy go crazy!! His name is Solomon, King Solomon! And, he believes he is a king, so we just let him go with that!

Thanks for the info, I don't want to waste these seeds. Sounds like I am growing cat weed, like Syn said, but I have bought a lot of catnip in the past, and this stuff is the best!!

P.S. If it won't survive your conditions, you can always grow it outside in summer, harvest, dry, and save for kitty babies during winter. Can also grow outside in containers, bring inside in fall and grow inside. Containers should help a bit from spreading to unwanted areas if it's a perennial in your area. Snip buds off and you should get a fuller plant. Also trim back when it gets leggy.

LMAOLMAO I will be trimming the buds and making the plants as full as I can! And drying as much as I can! My Solomon is a big cat, and loves to be spoiled!! He has always run through the house like a horse, but now it is more like a Buffalo!! LMAOLMAO

Like I said too it will grow fine here, and keep coming back, you can even snip off the plant at a branch put it in water and it will root.Ive had one last months out of Bugs reach in water.I have pulled them up the last couple years and stuck the whole plant (top down) in a paper bag to dry(behind a closed door)and after it dried deleafed, flowered, seeded and stuff the "shake" into a coffee can(bug cant get the top off) he eats baggies, then gave the stems to friends with pet birds, some like to chew the stems(catnip is part of the mint family)

Thanks so much!! Not too happy about the bees loving it also, but I have tough skin!! I can get the buds off the plants without too much pain!!

I wish Trin would come on, so I can say thanks!! Best nip I have had for my munchkin so far. I really do have to hide the baggie she sent. I put it in a plastic container, still inside the baggie, then in a closet. I bet he still finds it though!

Never reallly noticed the birds getting "buzzed" I just think they like the flavor.I had a package I bought on ebay it was great stuff ,I had it in my desk drawer and the cops searched my house(my son was on probation for weed) and they took it even though we said it was catnip.........however they ignored two paperbags of herbs I had pulled out of the garden and were drying???? one bag had catnip the other basil.(never did get the nip back)some cop made his kitty happy. lol
