LOL. I have a master's degree in Geology. I know what causes earthquakes homie, and it ain't the moon. It's called plate tectonics. Japan is on the edge of two plate boundaries, which makes it incredibly seismically active. It always has been, and will be for a long ass time.

Ok "Homie" with a masters degree in Geology. Its nice to know you are VERY smart..

has something to do with earth's axis and rotation. Dontknow
There was a theory put forth a while back that the effect of lunar gravity on the molten rock in the mantle might cause earthquakes. Basically the moon pulls on the liquid part of the mantle the same way it pulls on the oceans, but to a lesser degree because the mantle is not really liquid it's molten rock. Some scientists believed that this might have caused seismic activity, but that theory has pretty much been completely debunked.

Long story short, yes the moon may play a role but it's relatively small when compared with other factors.

well shit, i dont have a masters in geology and I KNOW that the moon has a very insignificant affect on the earths crust( I am avoiding saying NO because there is the whole gravitational pull thing but it is minor and does not cause earthquakes)

Not true! The Earth is round because how else can the Sun and everything rotate around it? Harhar

This is the picture that gets to me. We watched the arieal view of the wave hitting this coastal town last night and sweeping everything away. This angle shows just how high the wave was compared to the buildings in Natori.
Quote :
Houses in Natori were caught as a wall of water up to 10m (33 feet) high in some places swept inland.

You are all so off base it is ridiculous. Everyone knows the Earth is carried on the back of the great turtle Maturin.

"See the TURTLE of enormous girth!
On his shell he holds the earth.
His thought is slow but always kind;
He holds us all within his mind.
On his back all vows are made;
He sees the truth but mayn't aid.
He loves the land and loves the sea,
And even loves a child like me."
