as for putting them in the safe areas… nothing is truely safe… there are always plane crashes, meteors(meteorites/meteoroids), terrorists, etc

i do kinda disagree on that.. we do need to do more because nuclear fallout is horrible
My point is that you can ALWAYS say that. I mean let's say we build nuclear power plants to withstand 8.9 earthquakes. Then someone else can come along and say that it wouldn't withstand a terrorist bomb. Well if we build it to withstand terrorist bombs someone else could come along and say why don't we build them to withstand a meteor strike. Then we build them to withstand meteor strikes. Well someone else could say why don't we do more and build them to withstand the sun going super nova. I mean, where does it end? At some point you have to draw a line and build for what's reasonable and probable. Otherwise you could spend an infinite amount of money to build a power plant that could withstand ANYTHING. It's not reasonable to say that just because there was an 8.9 earthquake in Japan that damaged a power plant that we should do more and build all our power plants to withstand a similar catastrophe. The chances of such an earthquake occurring in Iowa or Kansas or North Dakota is incredibly remote when compared to Japan.

Does it make sense for the Japanese to prepare for such an eventuality? It would appear so. Does it make sense to decry that we shouldn't build any nuclear power plants in the US unless they can withstand the same thing? Definitely not.

It is bad that one of my first thoughts was that this was going to affect the price of electronics next year?

Am I going to Hell?

That afternoon I was playing Angry Birds and then started to feel bad so I stopped (toppling buildings...)
Then that night DH and I thought we might go get some sushi for dinner, but I thought it would be kinda weird so we didn't

i am actually thiking that this might help the economy because there will be a lot of infrastructure that needs to be rebuilt, japan has been in a huge recession and hopefully this will spur "Big Works" style economic recovery for them.

I dont know that cost of electronics will rise because i think that most production is still done in china but i am not in any way truely knowledgeable
